Job Description

Introduction

You will join the Safety Office team within the Experimental Physics Department, contributing to the definition and oversight of safety measures to support compliance of installations, activities, and projects with CERN Safety Rules and best practices.

Functions

  • Carry out risk assessments for installations and activities, recommend appropriate control measures and monitor on their implementation.
  • Perform and coordinate safety inspections with subject matter experts.
  • Support responsible teams in preparing, reviewing and maintaining safety documentation (e.g. technical descriptions, operation and maintenance procedures, etc.).
  • Provide clear guidance and actionable advice to stakeholders on safety-related matters.
  • Promote a proactive and sustainable Safety Culture through stakeholder engagement and safety awareness initiatives.
  • Organise and contribute to regular safety meetings and collaborate with safety officers, technical experts, and other stakeholders.
  • Analyse occupational incidents, prepare related reports, and follow up on the implementation of corrective actions.

Qualifications

Master's degree or PhD or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Engineering or Physics or a related field.

Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in safety management and risk assessment, in complex technical environments (e.g. research facilities, large-scale engineering projects, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of safety principles, risk analysis methods, and implementation of control measures.
  • Ability to analyse complex technical situations and provide practical, solution-oriented advice.
  • Experience in conducting inspections and incident analyses and their follow-up.
  • Knowledge of electrical or chemical safety would be a plus.

Employment Conditions

Contract type: Limited duration contract (5 years). Subject to certain conditions, holders of limited-duration contracts may apply for an indefinite position.

Working Hours: 40 hours per week

Job Flexibility: Hybrid

This position involves:

  • Work in Radiation Areas.
  • Interventions in underground installations.
  • A valid driving licence.
  • Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.
  • Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain exposure conditions.
  • Given the occupational health risks associated with this position, the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.
