This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision Team Leader, Sustainable and Inclusive Growth Unit the National UN Volunteer, will carry out the following tasks:

  • Support the Strategic Management Unit, and the Coordination and Safeguards Specialist in the application of the Social and Environmental Safeguards (SES) principles, and integration within and across the relevant thematic portfolios, such as biodiversity conservation, natural resources governance, climate change adaptation and promotion of rural renewable energy;
  • Support and/or provide analysis and research in priority thematic areas at the country level, including compilation and analysis of statistical data as required in support of country strategies and activities;
  • Facilitate dialogue on SES environmental and climate sustainability issues and their strategic integration across within and across thematic areas with government officials, development partners, civil society, and the private sector;
  • Support monitoring and reporting of progress related to SDGs and other national development Frameworks;
  • Participate actively in SIDA-UNDP Strategic Collaboration Framework on Environment and Climate Change, including through attending meetings (in-person and/or virtual), sharing relevant experiences, and conducting peer reviews;
  • Substantively contribute as possible to UNDP regional knowledge products and development of programming offers in regional priority areas (e.g., natural resources governance, biodiversity, climate action, energy); and
  • Enhance UNDP’s understanding and design of new approaches to environmental sustainability, sustainable climate and sustainable use of natural resources across the region by acting as a CO focal point where possible.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Master’s degree in social science, disaster management, environmental conservation, policy advocacy, natural resource management, or a related field

Required experience:

36 Months

Experience remark:

  • Familiarity and good understanding social and environmental safeguards, and at least 3 years of relevant work experience in Myanmar
  • Experience in working with senior government officials
  • Experience in teaching/training environment related courses and facilitation of consultations, workshops and trainings which include government staff, and local communities
  • Working experience in environmental safeguards in Myanmar will be an advantage
  • Experience working with government agencies, INGOs, UN agencies and civil society
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Myanmar language
  • Must be a Myanmar national

Language skills:

  • Burmese(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

Area of expertise:

Other energy, environment and climate change related experience, Capacity building of non-governmental organizations, Monitoring and evaluation
