Job Title: Rural Advocacy & Education Officer
Location: Montserrado, Margibi, Maryland, River Gee Reports to: Team Lead, EFECT Project Contract Type: Full-Time, 12-month Fixed Term
About Street Child Liberia
Street Child International Liberia is implementing a four-year Education For Every Child Today (EFECT) project, which began in 2022. The program will enrol and retain 13,500 highly vulnerable primary school-aged children in education across Liberia.
The project tackles multi-layered barriers to education using a child-centred approach and integrated interventions—social, economic, infrastructural, and instructional—to increase access and retention.
Role Summary
As a Rural Advocacy & Education Officer, you will work in rural communities across Liberia, mobilizing and engaging with stakeholders to strengthen access to education for vulnerable children. You’ll support school mentoring, advocacy, and data collection activities and build local-level partnerships.
Note: A valid Liberian motorbike riding license is required for this role. Proof will be requested at the interview stage.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead implementation of regional advocacy strategies aligned with EFECT’s national plan.
- Identify and map rural communities and Out of School Children (OOSC) using EFECT criteria.
- Deliver in-class mentoring and training to teachers on methodologies such as Teaching at the Right Level and Early Age Grade Learning Enhancer.
- Monitor teaching quality and learning outcomes in schools.
- Collaborate closely with County Ministry of Education offices and other partners.
- Administer and manage accurate, ethical data collection with informed consent.
- Represent Street Child in regional advocacy forums and events.
- Coordinate with fellow Rural Advocacy & Education Officers to harmonize initiatives.
- Contribute to tool development and internal project reporting.
- Support with additional responsibilities as reasonably assigned.
Requirements
Education & Skills
- Degree in Education or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience
- Experience in community advocacy or educational outreach
- Strong communication skills in English and local languages
- Confident in public speaking, training, and workshop delivery
- Able to work independently in rural, resource-limited settings
- Proficient in MS Office and mobile data tools (e.g., CommCare, KoboCollect)
Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar role, with at least 1 year in advocacy
- Experience in teacher training, community mobilization, or educational programming
- Familiarity with inclusive education, gender advocacy, and child participation
- Experience working with vulnerable children, caregivers, and schools
- Prior experience living or working in rural/remote areas preferred
- Previous line management or mentoring of junior staff an advantage
- Fluency in two or more Liberian languages is a strong asset
