Purpose of the Position

The purpose of this vacancy is to develop a list of qualified candidates for inclusion in this advertised roster for CDS programme, Nepal. Successful candidates will be placed on the roster and subsequently may be selected for the assignments falling in this area of work or for similar requirements/tasks/deliverables. Inclusion in the Roster does not guarantee selection to a SSA contract. There is no commitment on either side.

WHO is supporting the Ministry of Health and Population, DoHS, EDCD, and National Disease Programs in design and development of policies, strategies, guidelines for country-prioritized Communicable Diseases control and elimination. WHO is also providing technical inputs in strengthening of Communicable Diseases Surveillance activities at the national and sub-national level to achieve the goals of targeted Disease Control and Elimination including leprosy by the end of 2030.

Objective of the Position

The overall objective of the position is to support the national leprosy control program to strengthen the leprosy surveillance system in Nepal as per the National Leprosy Strategy and Action Plan (2021-2025).

Summary of assigned Duties

Under the guidance of WHO Representative Nepal and under the supervision of Team Lead (CDS, WCO Nepal) and NPO in collaboration with the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division (EDCD), the SSA to provide TA in the following tasks:

  1. Work very closely with the Leprosy Control and Disability Management Section, EDCD and assist in strengthening of leprosy surveillance and monitoring/evaluation of the national leprosy control program.
  2. Collect and collate epidemiology data from all national sources and conduct review and analysis of these leprosy data.
  3. Support in preparing monthly, quarterly, and yearly updates and reports for leprosy.
  4. Undertake frequent monitoring visits to provinces, districts, and local level to provide support in strengthening recording & reporting and data management of leprosy.
  5. Support the national program to prepare the annual request of leprosy drugs on donation.
  6. Support the central and provincial officials for proper leprosy drug management to ensure no stock out of leprosy drugs.
  7. Support the national leprosy program to undertake activities aimed at reducing the burden of leprosy in Nepal as per the national roadmap for zero leprosy Nepal (2021-2030).
  8. Perform any other activities assigned by supervisors

Qualification required:

Education:

Essential: Master’s degree in Statistics/ Public Health

Desirable: Training in leprosy control and surveillance

Experience:

Essential: At least 2 years’ experience in public health programs including data management and surveillance related to the infectious disease control.

Preferrable: Proven experience in leprosy control and surveillance system

Functional Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Self-motivated with ability to work with a minimum of supervision.
  2. Good interpersonal skills, able to work as a team member in a multi-cultural environment.
  3. Broad knowledge of principles, practices, methodology, and techniques in public health and malaria interventions.
  4. Experience providing continuous mentorship and capacity-building support to health facility staffs and program implementers at provincial and local levels.
  5. Ability to participate actively and cooperatively in knowledge sharing forums at various levels and to coordinate with the GoN agencies and key stakeholders.
  6. Ability to collect and analyse technical data and information and to draw and present conclusions.
  7. Good writing skills in English and Nepali, including ability to write clear and concise progress report, analytical reports, plans and proposals.
  8. Technical expertise and overall attitude at work is required as mandatory competencies.

Other Skills (eg IT):

Good computer skills including office software applications and basic statistical/database management.

Ability to use digital tools to collect and process data/information.
