Contract

This is a Consultancy contract. More about Consultancy contracts.

UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, opportunities.

How can you make a difference?

Purpose of the consultancy:

Under the supervision of the FR Officer, and in close collaboration with the Database Management Associate, Database Analyst Consultant, Telemarketing Consultant, Communications and programme staff, the Donor Stewardship Consultant will support the implementation of the FR plan, with a focus on increasing donors’ retention and lifetime value.

Background:

In 2018, UNICEF started a new five-year country partnership with Romania. The overall aim of the partnership is to continue to accelerate the universal realization of child rights and improve the situation of excluded children living in marginalized communities with large minorities and in most vulnerable and deprived areas. This is accompanied by promoting a culture of rights, social norms and alliances that will benefit all children and enhance equity and solidarity in the country.

Also, UNICEF continues to be the ‘Voice’ for children and adolescents, advocating and communicating around key national policies, social issues, mind sets and attitudes. In the current country programme, UNICEF in Romania continues to raise funds locally, both for national projects and for other countries.

The private sector’s role as a key contributor to other resources is expected to grow. UNICEF fundraises from both the private individuals and corporate sector are bringing on the market new techniques that provided excellent results in other markets.

Justification:

In line with its Private Sector FR Plan (PSP) for 2018-2022, the Country Office is increasing its fundraising efforts from private individuals, with a focus on building long term sustainable income, through monthly (pledge) donations. This will be achieved primarily by growing the number of pledge donors acquired through current channels (direct debit, online and SMS) and new methods of pledge donor recruitment (for e.g. through partnerships with companies).

In order to maximize income from private individual donors and increase donor lifetime value, support is needed for developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating a donor stewardship programme.

Specific tasks:

The key tasks expected to be fulfilled by the consultant are:

  • develop and implement the donor stewardship plan, in collaboration with relevant staff members (from FR, communications, program sections) and partners (for e.g. online agency, telemarketing agencies, various service providers: writers, photographers, video content production companies etc.);
  • analyse donor database, propose and implement stewardship activities based on donor behaviour, with the goal of increasing donor retention and maximize revenue for children;
  • continuously monitor and analyse the performance of donor stewardship campaigns (telemarketing, e-mailing etc.), to optimize and improve results;
  • provide specific information and requests to Database Management Associate for database segmentation according to various criteria: donor fulfilment rate, payment age, payment errors etc.;
  • assist in creating content for donor stewardship communication tools: welcome packages, reporting packages, e-newsletters, direct mailings, brochures, other printed materials, web page, and all other engagement and stewardship tools, in cooperation with relevant staff members and service providers (for e.g. printing houses, video production companies, online agencies etc.);
  • monitor and evaluate the results of the stewardship plan (KPIs: donor attrition, conversion rates, gross revenue from existing donors etc.), with the aim of adjusting and suggesting improvements to maximize revenue;
  • manage and coordinate various service providers (for e.g. telemarketing agencies) to optimize campaigns and improve results;
  • provide support to developing content for various fundraising campaigns, for example: fundraising TV videos, in close cooperation with TV crews and journalists, telemarketing scripts, human interest stories, texts for fundraising landing pages etc.

Expected deliverables:

  • implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the donor stewardship plan;
  • fundraising content according to various types of campaigns: newsletters, human interest stories, FR video scripts etc.;
  • active contribution to growing sustainable income, through providing high quality services to private individual donors and thus increasing donor lifetime value and retention in the program.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • University degree in humanities, communications, marketing/business or related field;
  • minimum five years of work experience, preferably in the field of customer retention /loyalty, marketing, fundraising or communication.
  • Fluency in Romanian and English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) is an asset.

For every Child, you demonstrate…
