Overview

You have:

  • An advanced degree in economics, trade policy, environmental studies, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in trade policy, environmental issues, or economic development.
  • Strong knowledge of national trade and environmental policies.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Fluency in French is required.

Duties and Responsibilities

Background The African Trade Policy Centre (ATPC) of ECA is supporting selected countries to integrate climate-resilient, green trade opportunities into their AfCFTA Implementation Strategies through a Green Supplement. This supplement will identify priority actions for green value chains and climate adaptation. A regional consultant will lead the drafting of the study, supported by national consultants responsible for data collection and stakeholder engagement.. Purpose of Assignment To assist the regional consultant and ATPC by collecting national-level data, facilitating consultations, and providing contextual insights to ensure the Green Supplement reflects local realities and priorities. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Data Collection • Gather relevant national documents, statistics, and studies on trade, environment, and value chains. • Compile information on existing policies, regulations, and standards related to green trade and climate adaptation. 2. Stakeholder Mapping and Engagement • Identify and maintain a list of key stakeholders (government agencies, private sector actors, SMEs, women-led businesses, regulators, AfCFTA committees). • Organize and facilitate interviews, surveys, and focus group discussions as per the methodology provided by the regional consultant. 3. Support Consultations • Assist in planning and conducting national workshops and field missions. • Document stakeholder inputs and provide summaries for integration into the Green Supplement. 4. Reporting • Submit a comprehensive report of data collected, consultations held, and key findings. • Provide feedback on draft sections of the Green Supplement from a national perspective. 5. Ad-hoc Support • Respond to additional requests from ATPC or the regional consultant related to the assignment..

Qualifications/special skills

Strong knowledge of national trade and environmental policies, excellent organizational and communication skills.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations. For the position advertised, fluency in French is required.
