UNFPA remains the lead UN agency dedicated to ensuring that every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe, and every young person can reach their full potential. Building on past achievements, UNFPA’s Strategic Plan (2022-2025) emphasizes three transformative results: ending preventable maternal deaths, ending unmet need for family planning, and ending gender-based violence and harmful practices. These objectives are critical to advancing the ICPD Program of Action and the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. In Syria, addressing the unmet needs for family planning remains a top priority. Many women and girls still lack access to modern contraceptive methods and reproductive health services, impacting their ability to decide freely and responsibly on their reproductive lives. This gap contributes to unintended pregnancies, maternal health risks, and limited opportunities for women’s empowerment and socio-economic development. The last assessments reveal that despite progress, significant unmet needs persist in Syria—hindering women and girls from exercising their reproductive rights fully. Strengthening supply chains for reproductive health commodities, expanding access at community levels, and ensuring the availability of quality family planning options are essential steps forward. UNFPA urges partners and stakeholders to focus on innovative, sustainable solutions that meet the urgent reproductive health needs of women and girls. By doing so, we can support their rights, improve health outcomes, and contribute to a more equitable and resilient society. In a world where fundamental human rights are at risk, we need principled and ethical staff, who embody these international norms and standards, and who will defend them courageously and with full conviction. UNFPA is seeking candidates that transform, inspire and deliver high impact and sustained results; we need staff who are transparent, exceptional in how they manage the resources entrusted to them and who commit to deliver excellence in programme results.
