UN Women has been in Afghanistan for two decades. UN Women’s programming approach is informed by analysis of the political, economic, and humanitarian situation, risks to and capacities of partner organizations, and needs of Afghan women and girls. Under the supervision of the Head of the Communications and Advocacy Unit at UN Women Afghanistan Country office, the graphic designers will be responsible for creating, implementing and dissemination of the graphic design for execution for both print and digital products compelling advocacy and communications assets and products, including audio visual concepts and assets, for campaigns, social media, website & publications, as needed.

Objective of the Assignment:

UN Women is seeking 3 graphic and digital media designers to illustrate and create multimedia content to support the implementation of the communications and advocacy plan. The designers will play a pivotal role in developing compelling

visual assets that will be used to promote UN Women's mission and initiatives to highlight the risks of the reversals on

the rights of Afghan women and girls as well as to support human centered stories of Afghan women.

Also all the work by the designers are belongs to UN Women and the designers are not allow to use those products for other agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities

The scope of work includes using datasets to design charts and ensure compelling data visualization for print and digital formats and accompanying social media assets; as well as creating innovative and compelling digital and print designs for campaigns and special events.

The graphic and digital designers will work closely with other members of the team.

Deliverables

Timelines

Concept notes of the overall digital campaigns look and feel, including mock visuals for three. content types/pillars:

  • visual directions for 1080x1080 statistics based on reports/maps,
  • visual directions for 1080x1080 quotes assets based on testimonials/audio interviews,
  • visual directions for illustrations of on various women’s right/issues templates (in 1080x1080 and 1920x1080)

Social media assets for Twitter and Instagram

  • 1080x1080 statistic assets (including an editable template)
  • 1080x1080 quote assets (including an editable template)
  • different 1080x1080 illustrated assets on various women’s right/issues templates.
  • different 1600 x 900 Twitter optimized assets.

The images (output) should be max 3MB.

Data visualizations:

  • based on reports/maps/statistics/data design graphics/infographics for social media dissemination.

Video Thumbnails / Web Banner (2 assets total):

  • 1920x1080 versions of illustrated social media assets (to serve as a video thumbnail and web banner)
  • 1080x1920 (vertical) version of one of the four illustrated assets (to serve as a thumbnail for

    IG Reels (please center the illustration along Y axis within the vertical version)

Functional Competencies

  • Ability to create compelling visual graphic stories for print and digital media.
  • Expertise in the use of professional graphic design tools.
  • Understanding of gender equality & women’s empowerment concepts and to translate that into visual stories.
  • Experience in creating charts, graphs, and other data visualization tools to effectively communicate complex information.
  • Understanding of branding and the ability to apply branding guidelines across different media types.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, work in a fast-paced environment, and respond quickly to feedback.

Required Skills and Experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, social sciences, graphic design or any related field of work.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional working experience in graphic design.
  • At least 1 year of professional working experience in translating written content into visually compelling digital stories.
  • Previous documented experience in visualizing women’s rights/women’s empowerment stories.
  • Previous documented experience on visualizing Afghan women/Afghan women’s rights would be an asset.

Language Requirements

  • Fluency in English is required
  • Knowledge of the other UN official working language is an asset.

Evaluation Criteria:

Individual consultants will be evaluated based on the following methodology: Only candidates obtaining a minimum of 49 points in the technical evaluation would be considered for the financial evaluation.

Criteria Weight Technical: 70% (70 points)

  • Criteria 1: Minimum of 2 years of professional working experience in graphic design, including 1 year of professional working experience in translating written content into visually compelling digital stories. (50 points)

  • Criteria 2: Previous documented experience in visualizing women’s rights/women’s empowerment stories. (10 points)

  • Criteria 3: Previous documented experience on developing visuals on/in the Asia Pacific region

would be an asset. (10 points)

Financial: Lowest Financial Proposal: 30% (30 points)

The points for the Financial Proposal will be allocated as per the following formula:

  • Contract will be awarded to the technically qualified consultant who obtains the highest combined score (financial and technical);
  • The points for the Financial Proposal will be allocated as per the following formula: (Lowest Bid Offered*)/ (Bid of the Consultant) x 30;
  • 'Lowest Bid Offered' refers to the lowest price offered by Offerors scoring at least 49 points in the technical evaluation.
