Founded in 1972 following the landmark UN Conference on the Human Environment, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading environmental authority in the United Nations system. UNEP's mandate is to find solutions to the triple planetary crisis of climate change, nature and biodiversity loss, and pollution and waste. The mission of UNEP is to inspire, inform, and enable nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.

UNEP’s coordination and representational role in Namibia is part of the Africa office, headed by the Regional Director and Representative. The architecture of UNEP’s role in Namibia is inclined to a representational role, coordination and integration of UNEP’s inputs and commitments to the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and liaison with the host government.

The goal of this assignment is to develop a strategic approach for mobilizing financial and non-financial resources to support environmental or development initiatives. This involves identifying potential funding sources, creating strategies for securing resources, and developing a resource mobilization plan that outlines actionable steps for achieving funding goals.

Responsibilities:

• Research and Analysis: Conduct comprehensive research to identify potential funding sources, including grants and loans. Analyze donor priorities, funding trends, and emerging opportunities to inform strategic decision-making. • Partnership Engagement: Cultivate partnerships with existing and prospective donors. Develop and maintain a partnership database to track interactions, preferences, and engagement strategies. • Proposal Development: Contribute to the development of project proposals and concept notes tailored to the interests and requirements of prospective funders. Collaborate with the UNEP Namibia Country Team to ensure alignment between project objectives and donor priorities. • Partnerships and Collaborations: Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships and collaborations with other organizations, institutions, and stakeholders to leverage resources, expertise, and networks for mutual benefit.

Outputs:

• Resource mobilization Report: Bi-weekly report highlighting potential funding opportunities, donor profiles, and recommended strategies for engagement. • Partnership Engagement Plan: Maintain an updated partnership engagement plan outlining strategies for cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation of major donors, corporate partners, and foundations. • Partnership Establishment: At least one strategic partnership or collaboration secured by the end of assignment, resulting in increased resources, visibility, and impact for the team.
