For 70 years, UNICEF has been working on the ground in 190 countries and territories to promote children's survival, protection and development. The world's largest provider of vaccines for developing countries, UNICEF supports child health and nutrition, good water and sanitation, quality basic education for all boys and girls, and the protection of children from violence, exploitation, and AIDS. UNICEF is funded entirely by the voluntary contributions of individuals, businesses, foundations and governments.

Under the supervision of the Chief of Partnerships and Resource Mobilization, the Resource Mobilization Specialist is responsible to support the office’s work in the areas of donors’ relations, design / implementation / tracking of the fundraising strategy, overseeing donor proposals and reports development.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Chief of Partnerships and Resource Mobilization, the UN Volunteer Resource Mobilization Specialist will support the office work by:

1.In close consultation with the Country Management Team and Program Sections implement the resource mobilization strategy and action plan for 2021-2025 CPD. Guide and support Country Management Team on opportunities for resource mobilization including with public/ bilateral donors, National Committees, and private sector. Prepare fundraising strategies as required to respond to specific needs (e.g., emergency situations) as identified by the Programme section. Prepare monthly updates and quarterly analytical reports to the Country Management Team and the Program Coordination Team (e.g. on funding gaps, top donors, etc).

2.Support CO’s activities around donor relations acting as focal point for communication with public donors as well as UNICEF National Committees; support the CO communication with UNICEF PPD and PFP colleagues on fundraising and donor relations matters (e.g. HAC, etc.).

3.Assist program colleagues on the key steps of the funding cycle once funding is secured: development of conventions/contracts, grant creation, conventions amendments/extensions, etc. Act as focal point to channel communication within key UNICEF international stakeholders (global partnership team, finance, etc.)

4.Support office’s effort to strengthen the existing donors’ relationships, and further expand the office network with new prospects. Develop and enhance the CO understanding of potential and existing donors through deeper donor analysis, regular meetings and communication, active monitoring of call for proposals and funding opportunities, donor briefing sessions, and provide a systematic follow up of all opportunities.

5.Oversee and directly contribute to the donor proposal development process. Gather insights about specific fundraising opportunities and brief the concerned colleagues (management, program colleagues, donor communication specialist). Support the conceptualization and development of project proposals with substantive input from Project Officers and field staff. Coordinate the contribution from colleagues and ensure timely and quality donor proposal submission.

6.Help the CO developing a culture of “customer relationships management” and ensure focus on donors’ and partners’ satisfaction is perceived as a critical success factor to ensure business continuity. This includes assisting the Donor Communication Specialist and the Communication Section on subjects as donor field visits, development of donor reports and other donor communication products to ensure the donor’s perspective is considered, and the program results are effectively represented and in line with the commitments taken with the donor. Work closely with communications team and seek synergies between resource mobilization and communications to enhance donor visibility and recognition, as well as advocacy for fundraising purposes through innovative approaches.

7.Regularly liaise with programme sections, as well as participate in strategic meetings, to ensure an updated and comprehensive knowledge of UNICEF programmes and their funding gaps. Support the Management outreach efforts and briefings with donors to report on status of children in Cote d'Ivoire, CPD implementation, and funding needs

the areas of partnerships, marketing, project management, market analysis, finance, is considered an asset, of which one (1) year must be in developing countries. This includes experience in both the private sector and international organizations. Working experience in West Africa is considered an added value.

An advanced university degree in Business Administration, Marketing or equivalent professional work in the business area combined with advanced university degree in a related area.

Abidjan is the capital of Cote d’Ivoire in West Africa. With an estimated population of 4.395 million, it is also Cote d’Ivoire's largest urban area and city with over 20% of the country’s entire population. Abidjan features a tropical wet and dry climate with a long rainy season from March to July, a short rainy season from September to December, and three dry months (January, February and August). Houses/Apartments are easily available and generally have electricity and running water, although this may not be 24hrs. Costs are reasonable but vary per location. Upon arrival, you will reside in a hotel or apartment until you get permanent housing. The UNV Support Office can assist in helping you identify suitable housing. Common diseases are Malaria, Yellow Fever, Typhoid and Meningitis. It is recommended to consult a travel clinic for required vaccines prior to travelling. Foods and dietary needs of all kinds are found in the many supermarkets. There are marketplaces that cater in fruits and vegetables, and bakeries offer some exquisite pastries and breads. Fresh fish and meats are also easily available.
