Job Description
BACKGROUND: Founded in 1933, the International Rescue Committee is a leading, non-sectarian, non-profit organization providing emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. Domestically, our 22 offices across the U.S. ensure new arrivals have food, shelter, and clothing, and work with refugees to help them gain self-sufficiency.
SCOPE OF WORK: Our resource development department is responsible for community development, outreach, in-kind donation coordination, and volunteer management. The intern will assist resource development staff with various responsibilities relating to fundraising, event planning, volunteer recruitment and management, and handling in-kind donations. Tasks may include recording donations and responding to donors, answering volunteer inquiries, maintaining records of volunteers and their service hours, processing donations of goods and assisting with the management of the IRC "Resettlement Shop" for providing clothing and household goods to refugees, leading volunteer trainings, and administrative duties. Interns, if interested, may also assist with writing and design tasks such as monthly newsletter articles, web posts, and creating invitations and programs for special events.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Attend Volunteer/Intern Orientation and assist with conducting orientations as needed
· Assist with processing, tracking, organization, and distribution of in-kind donations, including on-going management of the IRC’s “Resettlement Store”
· Assistance with tracking and recording volunteer service hours
· Planning and executing special events including intern/staff mixer(s)
· Support community outreach effort which may potentially include contributing to the monthly newsletter
· Provide timely, accurate, and clear communication to volunteers via email and phone
· Record hours and submit completed timesheet for each month via the IRC’s online Volunteer Dashboard.

· While a personal vehicle is not required, it would be helpful on occasion.
· This is a hybrid position and will require the candidate to be within driving distance from Richmond, VA.
This position is unpaid and reports to the Volunteer Coordinator.
