Overview

Support COVID-19 pandemic relief efforts and resilience analysis for development.

You have:

• Bachelor's degree related to political or social sciences or a related discipline.
• 2 years of experience at the national or international level in disaster risk reduction, humanitarian affairs, emergency relief management and/or development work.
• Fluency in spoken and written English is required.
• Fluency in Pidgin is an advantage.
• Experience with development, government programs, international organizations and/or civil society organizations is an asset.
• Familiarity with processes of UN agencies.

Contract

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of Deputy Resident Representative or his designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Resilience Analyst will:

• Monitor, analyzes and report on COVID 19 pandemic developments and relief efforts.
• Partner with other agencies to plan and evaluate COVID 19 pandemic assistance and help ensure that latest findings, lessons learned, policy guidelines, etc. are incorporated into these activities, including gender-related considerations.
• Establish and maintain contacts with government officials, other UN agencies, non-governmental organizations, diplomatic missions, etc.
• In response to COVID 19, undertakes and provides support to technical assistance and other field missions where appropriate.
• Contributes to the preparation of various UNDP COVID 19 response written reports, documents and communications.
• Ensure appropriate monitoring and reporting mechanisms are supported, provide information and advise on COVID 19 response and longer-term strategies, particularly in difficult operational contexts such as the Highlands.
• Review and provide advice on policy issues related to safeguarding humanitarian, disaster reponse and resilience principles and ensure the effective delivery of humanitarian and other assistance with respect to UNDP’s COVID 19 response.
• Organize and participate in working groups, meetings, conferences, consultations with other agencies and partners on resilience, disaster preparedness, humanitarian and emergency relief-related matters with respect to COVID 19 responses.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Bachelor degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Bachelor’s degree related to political or social sciences or a related discipline. A master’s degree in a social science and law or a related discipline is an advantage.

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

• Minimum 2 years of experience (5 years if no master’s qualification) at the national or international level in disaster risk reduction, humanitarian affairs, emergency relief management ands/or development work.
• Experience with development, government programs, international organizations and/or civil society organisations is an asset, as is experience working in the UN or other international development organization.
• Familiarity with processes of UN agencies.

Language skills:

• English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

• Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills.

• Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment.
• Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines.

Language skills:

Fluency in spoken and written English is required. Fluency in Pidgin is an advantage.
