Overview

Support community engagement and manage events for the SDG AI Lab.

You have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Economics, Business Administration, Communications, Public Policy, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in community engagement, event coordination, programme support, or a related area.
  • Experience in community outreach, stakeholder coordination, or partnership support.
  • Familiarity with event planning and coordination, including logistics and participant management.
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce content for diverse audiences and platforms.
  • Advanced level of English (written and spoken), with the ability to draft professional documents, correspondence, and communication materials fluently.
  • Strong team player with excellent interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills. Experience working in international or multicultural environments is a plus.
  • Meticulous approach to data collection, logistics coordination, and reporting to ensure accuracy and consistency across deliverables.
  • A genuine interest in sustainable development, digital innovation, and the application of AI for social good. Motivation to contribute meaningfully to SDG-related initiatives.

The ICPSD SDG AI Lab is a joint initiative of UNDP BPPS (Bureau for Policy and Programme Support) team and Sustainable Finance Hub, and it is hosted under UNDP ICPSD. The SDG AI Lab provides research, development, and advisory support through innovative digital solutions in harnessing the potential of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for sustainable development. The Lab aims to strengthen the UNDP’s internal and its partners’ capacities for the increasing demand for digital transformation.

This assignment is part of UNDP IICPSD SDG AI Lab.

The volunteer will play a pivotal role in supporting the SDG AI (Sustainable Development Goals Artificial Intelligence) Lab's community-building and event management efforts. Their primary responsibilities will span community work support and hackathon facilitation. They will work closely with the programme team to strengthen outreach activities and help drive impactful events from planning through to execution.

The main duties that they will be expected to carry out are:

  • Community Work Support: Assist in coordinating and sustaining community engagement activities, including outreach to partner organizations, stakeholders, and target groups. Support the team in building and maintaining relationships with relevant networks and communities of practice.

  • Hackathon & Event Support: Provide hands-on support throughout the planning and implementation of hackathons and innovation challenges, including logistics coordination, participant engagement, documentation, and post-event reporting.

Bachelor's degree or being currently enrolled as a 3rd or 4th-year undergraduate student in Social Sciences, Economics, Business Administration, Communications, Public Policy, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in community engagement, event coordination, programme support, or a related area. Prior exposure to innovation ecosystems, hackathons, or UN/NGO environments is an advantage.
