Contract

This is a UNV contract. More about UNV contracts.

The Volunteer Advisory Services Section (VASS) contributes to positioning UNV as a knowledge and policy hub on volunteering for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by generating knowledge, consolidating evidence, and advocating with Member States and the UN system to integrate volunteerism in their policies and plans, as a cross-cutting means of implementation of the 2030 Agenda and in alignment with the UNV Strategic Framework 2022-2025.

To continue its effort in providing up to date laws and policies information and evidence of volunteerism in the region, VASS in coordination with the UNV Regional Office of Asia and the Pacific (ROAP) is collaborating to gather law and/or policies (incl. cross-sectional policies mentioning volunteering) related to volunteerism on countries that have yet reflected in the UNV Knowledge Portal (https://knowledge.unv.org/).

In that regard the UNV ROAP is seeking the support of Online Volunteers to carry the research task on volunteering laws and policies in identified countries in Asia and the Pacific.

At the end of the assignment, the online volunteers will be rewarded with certificate and will gain better understanding on the contribution of volunteerism to the SDGs.

We are looking for Online Volunteers with strong interest in volunteerism and expertise in law and policies research, particularly related to volunteerism. In close collaboration with the focal point from UNV Regional Office of Asia and the Pacific, the Online Volunteers will: - Research on evidence of legislation, policies, and cross-cutting policies on volunteerism and review them against the evidence criteria (e.g.: evidence of volunteer activity results, volunteerism contributions, integration into national priorities, integration into development plans, policies, and strategies) - Collect the required information of the identified laws, policies and cross-cutting policies that meet the criteria into the template

The criteria and the template for the collected evidence will be provided at the beginning of the assignment.

The task will be split among the 3 selected online volunteers, and they will be assigned with each of the following for a list of countries given to them: - Legislation - Policies - cross-cutting policies The country distribution will be adjusted if there were any countries found to have very limited evidence.

Further guidance on the above tasks and workflow will be provided at the beginning of and during the assignment through call via Zoom/Microsoft Teams and emails, as needed.

  • Candidates should have in-depth understanding on the concept of laws and policies research, data collection and experience in conducting qualitative/quantitative data collection.
  • Candidates with past experience related to promoting volunteerism, specifically in Asia and the Pacific region is preferred.
  • Students with background in development studies, international cooperation, and humanities are encouraged to apply.
  • Professional level of verbal and written English is required.
