See the IEO website www.ieo-imf.org for detailed terms of reference and the list of ongoing and completed evaluation projects as well as of topics being considered for future ones.

The primary assignment of the Research Officer is to undertake analytical and data work in support of IEO evaluations.

Responsibilities will include:

  • As needed, support for AI and text analysis work.
  • Support economists, evaluators, and consultants in retrieving and accessing documents, arranging, and keeping records of interviews, as well as preparing background papers.
  • Support economists, evaluators, and consultants in conducting qualitative analysis, for instance by conducting desk reviews of IMF documents and participating in interviews.
  • Provide guidance, information, and informal training to users (economists and evaluators) in computer applications, statistical procedures, and use of databases.
  • Support outreach efforts for IEO evaluations, as well as collect and organize information received as a result of this outreach.
  • Assist with the production of IEO documents, including by engaging with the IMF publication team and outside vendors to arrange for and oversee layout and printing.
  • Selected candidate must be able to work independently under minimum supervision and be accountable for the accuracy of both data and programs.

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Macroeconomics, Finance, Statistics, or related field; or university degree supplemented by at least six years of professional experience
  • Strong analytical, quantitative and computer skills. Proficiency in software applications, e.g. MS Office (specifically Excel and Word) is required. Proficiency in packages such as Stata, Eviews, and Matlab, together with knowledge of statistical and econometric techniques and macroeconomic relationships, is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of IMF policies and operations is required. Experience with and understanding of evaluation approaches and methods are highly desirable.
  • Excellent command of English, written and oral.

It is expected that while the position is advertised at the full grade band, it will be filled at the lower-level grade.

Staff members already on a term appointment will continue their current term and, if extended by the IEO Director, their term appointment will be extended as per IEO TOR for noncontractual IEO employees. If the selected candidate were hired from outside the Fund staff, he/she will be required to serve a minimum of three years in IEO before being eligible for recruitment by the Fund.
