The research will be compiled online with guidance from the Digital Government Branch (DGB). Online Volunteers can expect weekly communication with Staff and be part of an online group who are doing similar assignments with different regions. The research will be on: digital development worldwide; how governments are using technologies, especially recent technologies, to deliver public services online; opportunities and challenges particularly for developing countries and vulnerable groups; analytical papers and wherever possible analysis based on data; comparative analysis across countries and regions.

  • Database design, administration and maintenance

    The main objective of the assignments is to contribute to implementation of the ongoing programme activities, including research and data analysis. This research will support us in gaining valuable insights on the challenges developing countries are currently facing, thus being able to make recommendations to help in the improvement of delivery of public online services, for example. It will also be the cornerstone of our next E-Government Survey. Thanks to the support of volunteers, UNDESA was one of the ten winners of the “Online Volunteering Award 2013” announced by the UNV programme in November 2013, in recognition of the effort undertaken by the Data Team of the UN E-Government Survey 2014, led by the Digital Government Branch of DPIDG.

    Knowledge of English is required, knowledge of any other official UN language is an advantage Understanding of public policy, public administration, and e-government Research and analytical skills IT skills, knowledge of statistical programming and tools of analysis is an advantage Skills in statistical and data analysis, knowledge of complex network analysis is an advantage Communication skills, proven by assessments, papers, articles, essays written in English
