You have:
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, business administration, management, or a related field is required.
- A Master’s degree in a relevant field would be an advantage.
- 0 to 2 years of experience in research, administration, project or programme management, or related area is required.
- Experience in collecting and researching data across various areas of social and economic development or related area is desirable.
- Experience in similar work within a UN entity is an advantage.
Contract
This is a UNV National Youth contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Youth contracts.
This position is in the Sub-regional office for North Africa of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA SRO-NA). The Research Associate reports to the Director of the office.
Under the direct supervision of the Economic Affairs Officer and the overall guidance of the Director, the UNV Research Associate will undertake the following tasks:
• Draft literature review on topics selected by the Office; • Researches, extracts and compiles basic information and technical data on specific programmes/projects and related topics and issues. • Sorts, consolidates, extracts and processes data and enter into relevant database. • Trips out unwanted information and formatting, translating data into the required format and structuring it for analysis or processing by other applications • Assists in monitoring developments/issues on subjects or areas assigned by collecting, selecting, analyzing and compiling materials from multiple sources, e.g., relevant databases, the library and the Internet. • Assembles original statistical material; adjusts reported data from different sources and load data into computerized database system. • Assists in the evaluation and examination of data sets for accuracy, clarity and validity. • Assists in the maintenance of relevant computerized databases. • Provides analysis of data with statistical and econometric tools • Prepares a variety of reports, presentations, tables, lists, graphs, charts and/or diagrams for information and review by senior officers. • Prepares abstracts/bibliographic descriptions for inclusion in documents, articles, books and publications. • Reviews, stores, classifies, and maintains relevant computerized databases. • Takes notes and drafts executive summaries of meetings. • Collects, organizes and disseminates relevant UN and media information. • Co-ordinates and sets up press briefings, press statements, pamphlets or other public awareness campaigns to educate public on any specific issue. • Performs other related work as required.
Furthermore, UN Volunteers are encouraged to integrate the UN Volunteers programme mandate within their assignment and promote voluntary action through engagement with communities in the course of their work. As such, UN Volunteers should dedicate a part of their working time to some of the following suggested activities:
• Strengthen their knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading relevant UNV and external publications and take active part in UNV activities (for instance in events that mark International Volunteer Day);
• Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country;
• Provide annual and end of assignment self-reports on UN Volunteer actions, results and opportunities.
• Contribute articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc.;
• Assist with the UNV Buddy Programme for newly-arrived UN Volunteers;
• Promote or advise local groups in the use of online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible.
EXPECTED RESULTS
• As an active UNECA SRO-NA team member, efficient, timely, responsive, client-friendly and high-quality support rendered to UNECA SRO-NA and its beneficiaries in the accomplishment of her/his functions, including:
o Provides reliable research and data on specifically defined aspects of thematic areas defined.
o Processes work and follows-up, under some supervision, seeking advice and/or reporting to supervisor as needed.
o Consistently applies appropriate policies, guidelines and procedures.
o Effectively and in a timely manner, liaises and interacts with colleagues and concerned parties internally and externally.
• Age, Gender and Diversity (AGD) perspective is systematically applied, integrated and documented in all activities throughout the assignment
• A final statement of achievements towards volunteerism for peace and development during the assignment, such as reporting on the number of volunteers mobilized, activities participated in and capacities developed

Rabat, the capital, is a peaceful city. People are friendly to visitors. Services in terms of banking, transportation, health and communications are easily-available. Road network is good both in terms of spread and quality of the roads. Public transportation in is limited. Taxis are relatively cheap and easily available. There are a number of shopping malls, restaurants, gyms, and cinemas although COVID19 sanitary measures are in application. A large variety of accommodation options can be found. There are no specific security threats.
As this is a national UN Volunteer assignment, the UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging his/her own housing and other living essentials.
