Result of Service

The incumbent will be expected to provide the following: Ensuring the reliability and accuracy of the Global Economy Wide Trade Simulator Interfaces for Oman, UAE, and Morocco through comprehensive comparison with the model itself. Enhanced User Experience: Creation of comprehensive training materials and user guides for the new national versions of GETSI, empowering national teams to effectively utilize the platform for informed decision-making and policy formulation. Working closely with the tech team to fix any hiccups in the system while running simulations. Keeping things running smoothly Conducting in-depth analyses on specific subjects related to trade integration, providing valuable insights and recommendations. Undertaking additional tasks and duties as assigned, ensuring adaptability and responsiveness to evolving project needs, contributing to overall project success.

Duties and Responsibilities

Background: This assignment for Individual contractors/ researcher is part of technical cooperation to MSs and to carry out research and analyses on Trade and assist in the development of technical materials and capacity building activities. The services of an individual contractor are needed to assist the project coordinator in preparing technical materials and capacity building activities to member states. More particularly, the research assistant will be involved finalizing and checking the three GETSI developed for Oman, UAE, and Morocco. The IC will also support the project coordinator in the delivery of additional technical assistance activities on trade issues. This assignment is for IC researcher is under Project on Facilitating Arab regional and global integration through evidence-based policy making toolkits related to finalizing the uploading GETSI Morocco on GAMS-MIRO with IT's team. Duties and Responsibilities: In particular, the IC will be tasked to do the following: • Assist in checking the three Global Economywide Trade Simulator Interfaces developed for Oman, UAE, and Morocco. To do so, the IC will work with the project coordinator in comparing results of simulations using the interface and the model itself. • Assist in preparing training materials and user guides for the new national versions of GETSI under development to facilitate their uses by national teams. • Assist in coordinating with IT’s team to address all issues experienced when running simulations using the interfaces. • Undertake specific analyses on selected subjects related to trade integration. • Performs other related tasks and duties as assigned.

Qualifications/special skills

A Bachelor's degree in applied economics or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of two years of professional work experience in the field of research and analysis Trade policies is required. Experience and knowledge of statistics and other sustainable development issues is required. Proficiency in Microsoft office applications is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required. Fluency in Arabic and French is desirable. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
