Result of Service - Provides substantive and general administrative support in support of the project activities related to Food Security, circular economy and Environment - Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Location Beirut

Expected duration 6 months (1 June – 1 December 2022)

Duties and Responsibilities The services of an individual contractor are needed to carry out research and analyses on issues related to agriculture, food security, environment, circular economy and climate change in order to support the organization of workshops and the development of various technical material on the issued addressed in the projects.

The IC will work under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator.

In particular, the research assistant will be tasked to do the following:

  • Researches, compiles, analyses, summarizes, and presents basic information/data on food security, circular economy and environment related topics; assists in the preparation of presentations and background material for related deliverables;
  • Systematically follows through and retrieves, highlights and compiles information on Food Security, rainfed agriculture, monitoring Food security, good agriculture practices with emphasis on food waste and loss and environmental challenges in the Arab region from a wide variety of information sources; prepares inputs on the subject as required; including preparation of statistical tables and graphs;
  • Attends meetings and follows discussions and prepare summary or any other required input;
  • Reviews documents on the subject of food security, environment and food loss and waste;
  • Drafts routine correspondences (emails, letters, memos...) to relevant stakeholders as needed;
  • Maintains an up-to-date work unit files (both electronic and paper);
  • Translates from English to Arabic and vice versa upon request;
  • Respond to or draft responses to a range of correspondence and other meeting-related communications in Arabic or English;
  • Supports the preparation of workshops, events and meetings including contributing logistically and substantively in relation to the projects;
  • Performs other related tasks and duties as assigned.

    Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: First or advanced university degree in a field related to agriculture, food, environment or sustainable development is desirable. Experience: At least two years' experience in the field of research and analysis. Experience and knowledge of agriculture, environmental data collection and food security analysis or sustainable development is desirable. Language: Fluency in oral and written English and Arabic. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
