Result of Service

The incumbent is required to provide the following: • Provide substantive and general administrative support to ADCD-ASAP phase 2 related deliverables; namely, 3.2C Convening the 2nd Arab "Digital Cooperation and Development Conference" (or the 4th"Arab High-Level Forum on WSIS and 2030 Agenda" and the 7th "Arab IGF") and its associated documentation and promotional material; as well as 2.G1.09 Official Launch of ADAICTS. • Performs other duties related to Information Society in general and Digital Development in particular as assigned.

Duties and Responsibilities

Background: The services of an individual contractor are needed to carry out research and analyses on Information Society, Digital Cooperation & Digital Development to support the development of technical materials on the subject and the convening of related events. The individual contractor will provide support to the Phase 2 of the “Advancing Digital Cooperation and Development - Arab States Action Programme” project (ADCD-ASAP phase 2)’s digital development track activities. Duties and Responsibilities: The IC will work under the direct supervision of the ADCD-ASAP Project Coordinator and the designated project staff. In particular, the IC will be tasked to do the following: • Research, extract and compile basic information and technical data on Information Society, Digital Cooperation & Digital Development. Plus, preparing statistical tables, graphs, and other visual aids to support research findings; • Research appropriate tools for intelligent search, data mining and harvesting pertaining to National Digital Development Review Reports and Agendas, Arab Digital Agenda and Digital Development and Digital Cooperation Observatory; • Prepare abstracts/bibliographic descriptions for inclusion in documents, articles, books and publications; • Carry out quality control function for outgoing documents; proofreads and edits texts for adherence; • Assist in the preparation of agenda, info notes, presentations, background substantive material related to the section meetings; • Assist in the development and dissemination of communication materials; • Sustain an efficient information flow within the other ESCWA departments (specially the media and design departments) in the 2nd edition of the Digital Cooperation and Development Forum (DCDF) and the Arab Digital Agenda Collaboration and Partnership Framework (CPF); • Perform, under supervision, the full range of office management and administrative support functions; • Manage calendars, schedule meetings, attends meetings, prepares minutes, monitors follow-up activities; • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth execution of events and meetings; • Performs other related work, as required.

Qualifications/special skills

A recognised 1st level degree in a field related to Information Society, Digital Cooperation & Digital Development, economics, development studies or related area is required. All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. For this position, no previous work experience is required.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in Arabic and English is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
