The UNHCR Regional Bureau for West and Central Africa supports country operations, governments and regional partners in strengthening protection responses for refugees, asylum-seekers and other populations of concern across the region. This includes support to asylum systems, international protection, mixed movements, inclusion, policy development, capacity-building and regional coordination initiatives. As part of its regional support and advisory role, the Bureau develops analytical products, policy briefs, knowledge-management tools, training materials and strategic documents to support evidence-based decision-making and strengthen protection responses across West and Central Africa. The Online Volunteer will contribute to selected research and analytical activities in support of regional protection priorities and broader institutional learning efforts. This assignment offers an opportunity to contribute to regional initiatives while gaining exposure to international protection and asylum capacity development.
Under the supervision of the protection officer, the online volunteer will contribute to a range of activities related to research, legal analysis and documentation. Key responsibilities may include: • Conducting desk research on protection, asylum, mixed movements and related topics • Collecting, reviewing and organizing information from reports, guidance documents, meeting records and other sources, • Supporting the preparation of analytical summaries, briefing notes, concept notes and background papers, • Assisting with the compilation and synthesis of information from multiple countries and stakeholders, • Supporting the development of knowledge products, presentations and communication materials, • Assisting in documenting good practices, lessons learned and emerging trends, • Supporting information management and knowledge-sharing initiatives, • Contributing to the organization and structuring of reference materials and technical resources, • Assisting with the preparation of materials for regional meetings, webinars, workshops and learning initiatives, • Providing other research and support as required. Expected outputs Depending on priorities during the assignment period, the online volunteer may contribute to: • Research products and information summaries, • Briefing notes and background documents, • Presentations and communication products, • Compilations of good practices and lessons learned, • Structured reference libraries and resource repositories, • Inputs to regional reports, concept notes or analytical documents.
