This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of Regional Policy and Programme Specialist on Women’s Economic Empowerment, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

  • Conduct research in support to thematic areas of focus as identified by the WEE team
  • Through data analysis support the development of the next Strategic Plan 2022 – 2025
  • Draft policy briefs on sub-thematic issues relevant to labour force participation of women in MENA (I.e. unpaid care)
  • Identify niches for UN Women interventions and draft concept notes
  • In consultation with WEE team, support country offices when needed with data analysis and research
  • Work closely with WEPs team in ROAS and support data collection, analysis and reporting for WEPs related initiatives. Support the regional joint programmes such as the one on decent work with ILO and the one on entrepreneurship promotion with UNIDO and FAO
  • In coordination with WEE unit lead the data collection, analysis and reporting corporately (for the region and globally relevant to WEE)
  • Other work- related duties assigned by supervisor

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Areas of education / specialization: Economics, labour economics, statistics, social sciences, international development, gender, etc

Required experience:

24 Months

Experience remark:

Researcher on labour market issues, economic development, macroeconomics etc ideally from a gender perspective. Strong analytical and report writing skills are required. Experience working in development programmes is considered an asset. Applied knowledge of any statistical software (i.e. spss, stata etc) an asset. Experience working in international setting an asset

Language skills:

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
  • Arabic(Optional), Level - Working Knowledge

Selection process

Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. The selection will be done by the UN Host Entity at the level of the country of assignment. Interviews will be conducted by the UN Host Entity between 17 May and 4 June. Usually these interviews are competency-based.
