Gender inequalities are one of the major causes of poverty worldwide. Around 70 percent of the world’s poor are women, of which the majority are rural women from developing countries. UNDP is undertaking a mapping exercise to identify existing legislation and policy frameworks on women as co-managers and co-owners in family business/farms including fisheries. Portugal is one the countries that recognise women’s contribution to the family fishery business and an old-age pension can be secured through contribution to the fishers social security system. UNDP requires the services of a UN volunteer in Portugal fluent in Portuguese and English to support in the generation of evidence which can inform law and policy on women as de-facto co-managers in small family businesses drawing on Portugal’s experience.

Candidates need to be fluent in English and portuguese. Experience in qualitative data analysis and research. Familiarity and expertise with gender are considered an asset.
