The gender team at UNDP is looking for online volunteers to support in the review and generation of existing legal and policy evidence which can inform policy on women as defacto co-managers in family businesses. The online volunteers will: 1) Contribute to generating data and understanding of the progress in implementation of the Manitoba Family Farm Protection Act and the Farmlands Ownership Act of Manitoba Cap F35 and its effect on job creation and social protection for women in family businesses in Manitoba. 2) Identify good practices adopted in family farms and other small family businesses in Manitoba which can inform /legislation and policy framework (evidence-based policy making) on family businesses as a mechanism for enhancing social protection and jobs for women. 3) Identify implementation and monitoring opportunities and challenges of Manitoba Family Farm Protection Act and the Farmlands Ownership Act of Manitoba Cap F35 related to spousal co-management.

    Gender inequalities are one of the major causes of poverty worldwide. Around 70 percent of the world’s poor are women, of which the majority are rural women from developing countries. UNDP is undertaking a mapping exercise to identify existing legislation and policy frameworks on women co-managers and co-owners in family business including family farms. Manitoba is one of the provinces in Canada which have progressed in recognising women in family businesses through offering protection of the family farm under The Family Farm Protection Act and the Farmlands Ownership Act of Manitoba Cap F35.

  • Volunteers: 5 needed

  • 6-10 hours per week / 5 weeks

    The volunteer needs to be fluent in English. Experience in qualitative data analysis and research. Familiarity and expertise with gender are considered an asset.
