About the Program:

The Industrial Innovation and Carbon Removal Team uses analysis, research, and partnerships to drive advancements in industrial decarbonization and carbon removal and meet U.S. climate goals. With a comprehensive portfolio covering technological and natural carbon removal and decarbonizing the highest emitting industrial subsectors—such as steel, cement, chemicals, and refining—the Team advances new research and policies into vital and growing climate tools. The Team works with entities in the public, private, labour, and NGO sectors to accomplish mutually desired goals that ultimately aim to benefit people, nature, and climate.

Job Highlight:

Reporting to the Associate - Industrial Innovation & Carbon Removal, you will contribute to the research and analytical activities of the Industrial Innovation and Carbon Removal team within WRI U.S., in support of our efforts to lay the groundwork for advancing low-carbon, equitable, and resilient domestic climate policies. This will include research and analysis of industrial decarbonization and carbon removal technologies, tracking policy and legislative developments for industrial decarbonization and carbon removal, and supporting development of knowledge and communications products on these topics. You will work in close collaboration with project leads, technical partners, and other WRI programs.

What will you do:

Research and Analysis (60%):

  • Conduct research on approaches and technologies needed to accelerate industrial decarbonization and scaleup carbon removal, including identifying policy support needs and potential risks and benefits
  • Monitor and synthesize relevant policy and technology developments and their potential climate impact, and identify implications for the team’s work
  • Attend webinars, meetings, and virtual workshops/conferences on industrial decarbonization and carbon removal and summarize key takeaways
  • Analyse primary data from national emissions and other databases
  • Co-author knowledge products, including working papers and reports
  • Help coordinate and manage development and review process for knowledge products

Communication, engagement, and coordination (40%):

  • Author and/or co-author articles and other externally facing communication materials to communicate complex content in an easily understandable way
  • Engage with partner institutions including academia, NGOs, government, and private sector on knowledge sharing and joint research products
  • Help prepare presentations and briefings for internal and external audiences
  • Support external engagements and opportunities at the national, regional, and global level
  • Help coordinate project implementation and provide inputs into funder reports and track funder deliverables

What will you need:

  • Education: You have a bachelor’s degree or hold an equivalent four-year university degree
  • Experience: You have a minimum of 2 years of full-time work experience relevant to the job description
  • Experience in industrial decarbonization and carbon removal technology and/or policy is a plus
  • Languages: Written and spoken proficiency in English
  • Requirements: Existing work authorization is required where this position. WRI is unable to authorize visa work authorization

Potential Salary: Salary range is between 57,000 and 62,000 USD. Salary is commensurate with experience and other compensable factors.
