Overview

Provide evidence-based analysis on Sustainable Development Goals for UN Country Team.

You have:

  • Master's Degree in Economics, Statistics, Development Studies, Public Policy or related field or equivalent.
  • 24 months of relevant experience in political affairs and reporting, economics, or related fields.
  • Fluent in English (mandatory).
  • Fluent in Arabic (mandatory).
  • Knowledge and experience with statistical and econometric analysis software (e.g., Stata, R, MATLAB, Eviews, SPSS) is an asset.
  • Good oral and written communication skills in English; strong drafting and reporting skills.
  • Solid proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, etc.) and database management.
  • Ability to work independently, meet tight deadlines, and show self-motivation.
  • Interest or affinity with sustainable development and economic policy analysis.

Contract

This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

Eligibility criteria

Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.

Description of task

Within the delegated authority and under the direct supervision of Economist, Development Coordination Officer of RCO or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UNV Research Analyst will:

  1. Provide evidence-based Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) analysis in support of a shared understanding by the UN Country Team (UNCT) of sustainable development trends, challenges and opportunities;

  2. Contribute to the development of the UN’s Common Country Analysis (CCA).

  3. Contribute substantive research, data analysis and analytical inputs to RCO knowledge products on sustainable development, including economic policy analysis.
  4. Researches, analyzes, consolidates and presents SDG-related data, as well as information on emerging best practices in sustainable development, paying special attention to gender and capacity development, and proposes policy options.
  5. Contribute towards finalization of knowledge products including organization of design and lay-out of the final knowledge products.

  6. Assist in the organization of RCO events, webinars and stakeholder engagement, especially for knowledge products development and dissemination.

  7. Contribute towards knowledge management activities and processes of the UN system in Egypt, especially related to knowledge produced related to socio-economic impacts of Covid-19.

  8. Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Area of expertise:

  • Knowledge and experience in working with statistical and econometric analysis software’s (Stata, R, MATLAB, Eviews, SPSS) will be an asset.

    • Good oral and written skills in English; good drafting, formulation, reporting skills in English;
  • Solid overall computer literacy, including proficiency in various MS Office applications (Excel, Word, etc.) and email/internet; familiarity with database management; and office technology equipment;
  • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines;
  • Have affinity with or interest in sustainable development and economic policy analysis volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
