Result of Service The bibliographical records of ESCWA document collection on KOHA (Library management System) will be verified, edited, and tagged to be moved into ESCWA Knowledge Repository.

Expected duration 6 months

Duties and Responsibilities ESCWA is developing a Knowledge Repository, that aims to collect, organize, preserve all ESCWA knowledge products in one online database. The Repository will enable the sharing, availability, and accessibility of all ESCWA intellectual products under open access policy.

The Repository Librarian will be responsible in fulfilling the following tasks:

Collect knowledge products (Speeches, info graphs, press releases, multimedia) from different ESCWA databases. Cataloguing of books, serials and multimedia materials in integrated library system (ILS) and ESCWA Knowledge Repository. Subject analysis of books, serials and multimedia materials in (integrated library system (ILS)), and ESCWA Knowledge Repository. Quality check of bibliographical records (integrated library system (ILS)) and ESCWA Knowledge Repository Ensure that all records ’metadata are compatible with international cataloging standards, such as MARC21and Dublin Core. Assisting in collection management activities (shelving, weeding, and other related activities.).

Qualifications/special skills A Bachelor's degree in Documentation, Library science, Information Management or Management Information Systems or related area is required.

All candidates must submit a copy of the required educational degree. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. A minimum of three years of work experience in Library management system or database management is required. Experience in Digital repository work is required. Knowledge of multimedia data is desirable.

Languages Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA.

For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required.

Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.

Additional Information Recruitment for this position is on a local basis. The incumbent is required to have the legal right to live and work in the specified working location.
