The Reporting Officer (Protection) reports to the Portfolio Manager, with indirect reporting lines to thematic team leader at headquarters.

Responsibilities -Acts as the Division’s focal point for the production of reports related to protection and human rights (including but not limited to publication of reports, mainly project reports to donors for Protection and Humanitarian Principles projects), as well as humanitarian principles, which entails conducting outreach to fields to collect information/inputs.

-Drafts and incorporates protection related inputs into several reports, including international human rights mechanisms, UN, donors, other reports and ad hoc requests on international human rights and protection issues and the living conditions of Palestine refugees and their access to services.

-Stays abreast of developments in projects and progress towards deliverables for the purpose of reporting.

-Liaises with thematic team leaders at HQ on substantive direction of reports, providing advice to protection leadership on templates/structure/substance of donor reports.

-Facilitates communication between different departments of UNRWA and focal points in the Fields, assisting in management, monitoring, and reporting of the projects.

-Participates in the preparation and publication of reports, mainly project reports to donors for Protection and Humanitarian Principles projects.

-Coordinates and collects information on the budget component of reports in coordination with the project managers and finance.

-Drafts short analyses using current data tools and processes; identifies areas where data collection processes and data analysis methods can be improved.

-Regularly monitors UNRWA’s collected data and trends; uses data to prepare presentations, graphs, charts and/or briefings etc.

-Updates the results framework in line with the project proposals including elements like indicators, outputs, and outcomes.

-Keeps up-to-date a comprehensive plan for project management, which includes specific goals to be achieved and tracks the progress of the project in terms of time and resources. Provides other operational support as required, particularly to address gaps in humanitarian and emergency operations.

Education An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in international relations, social sciences, communications, journalism, literature, languages, humanities or a related discipline.

Work Experience At least five years of relevant professional experience in drafting reports is required.

At least one year of practical reporting experience, preferably in humanitarian and/or human rights issues and drafting official reports is required

Unless already serving as an international staff member in the UN Common System, at least two continuous years of relevant international experience outside UNRWA, and outside the country(s) of which the candidate is a national or holds citizenship, a passport or a national identity number, is required.

An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) from an accredited educational institution in international relations, social sciences, communications, journalism, literature, languages, humanities or a related discipline, is required.

Languages Excellent command of written and spoken English, is required.

Excellent command of written and spoken Arabic, is desirable.

Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

Special Notice Type of Contract and duration: One year project funded, with the possibility of further extension subject to availability of funds, satisfactory performance and continuing need. Expected start date for selected incumbent is 1 January 2024.

The incumbent may be required to travel in the Agency’s areas of operation.
