Org. Setting and Reporting In its Resolution A/RES/72/279, the United Nations General Assembly endorsed the transformation of the UN Development Coordination Office (UNDCO) as a stand-alone coordination office within the United Nations Secretariat. The new UNDCO assumes managerial and oversight functions of the resident coordinator system under the collective ownership of the members of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG).

This position is located in the UNDCO and reports to the Results Reporting Officer, in close coordination with the Digitization Officer/Digital Strategist in the Communications and Results Reporting Section (CRRS). The incumbent is under the overall supervision of the Chief of CRRS.

Responsibilities Within delegated authority, the incumbent may be responsible for the following duties:

  • Coordinate and support regular data collection, processing and analysis using UNDCO’s IMS in close collaboration with relevant focal points at Headquarters and in the field, researching the applicability of new and emerging technology to support the process;

  • Determines primary, secondary data and information requirements, organizes, designs, extracts, analyses and evaluates operational and spatial data/datasets across the UN Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG), the RCS and UNDCO using applicable tools and techniques; maintains a repository of these data/datasets, including all relevant documentations;

  • Generates survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identify problems/issues and prepares conclusions;

  • Contributes to the production of policy and communication materials utilized across the UNSDG, the RCS and UNDCO, in collaboration with relevant UN and external partners. Produces briefs, data visualizations, infographics and maps from complex UN and external data sources. Analyzes complex data and datasets to support UNDCO branches in developing ad-hoc and standing result reports;

  • Contributes to the development of data standards in accordance with common open data initiatives such as the International Aid Transparency Initiative (IATI), the UN Data Cube, etc. to increase transparency and facilitate decision-making;

  • Participates in the design, development and maintenance of legacy and new UNDCO results reporting platforms, contributing to feasibility studies, systems analysis, functional testing and roll-out of re-engineered systems;

  • Develops technical documentation and training materials for UNDCO results reporting systems, in collaboration with relevant focal points. Conducts end-user trainings exercises and presents UNDCO results reporting systems to a wide range of UN and external audience;

  • Perform other related duties, including providing support to the Results Reporting Officer, as required.

  • TECHNOLOGICAL AWARENESS: Keeps abreast of available technology; understands applicability and limitation of technology to the work of the office; actively seeks to apply technology to appropriate tasks; shows willingness to learn new technology.

    Education Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communications, information science, information systems, social science or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

    Work Experience A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in information and knowledge management, results and online reporting or related area is required A minimum of two years of experience in data analyses systems, collection and visualization is required. Experience in information and knowledge management within the UN common system or another comparable international organization is desirable. Experience with results and online reporting within the UN common system or another comparable international organization is desirable. Experience in data analysis, collection and visualization systems, to include geographic information systems (GIS), within the UN common system or a comparable international organization is desirable. Experience working in support of the Resident Coordination System is desirable.

    Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French is desirable. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.

    Assessment Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise which may be followed by competency-based interview.

    Special Notice This position is temporarily available for three (3) months, with possibility of extension and subject to the availability of funding.

The selected candidate is expected to start as soon as possible. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.
