Position Title: Report Writer

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

The Mission of the WHO Health Emergencies Programme, is to help countries, and to coordinate international action, to prevent, prepare for, detect, rapidly respond to, and recover from outbreaks and emergencies.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

1. Identify subjects of interest to develop and improve high quality reporting and products pertaining to the emergency floods response.

2. Design materials and tools and ensure the rapid and timely dissemination of information to all partners, through traditional and social media channels.

3. Liaise with country Information Management Officer to identify and document success stories and best practices in country.

4. Manage the development and harmonization of content for the emergency-related websites, incompliance with guidelines and standards used throughout the Organization, to ensure consistency of approach.

5. Initiate the drafting of the daily internal situation updates and review the weekly external situation reports.

6. Contribute to the development of comprehensive reports on the current floods response and of periodic emergencies information products.

7. Attending meetings or taking part in conference calls with matter experts inside and outside the organization.

8. Reviewing and amending work in response to editor feedback, selecting appropriate artwork to accompany articles. Proofread materials for accuracy before printing.

9. Work closely with the country and regional teams to advocate and disseminate relevant information related to the Floods response.

10. Perform any other incident-specific related duties, as required by the functional supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education

Essential: First university degree in communication, journalism, international relations, social sciences, public health, medicine or related field from an accredited/recognized institute. Desirable: Courses in communication techniques such as graphic design, visual language and the use of social media.

Experience

Essential: At least two years of progressive and related experience, at the national and international levels, including experience in technical research, reporting, editorial, and information management working in the health domain, within relevant research and/or public health information setting.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills complemented by the ability to conceptualize ideas and advocate consensus.

REMUNERATION

WHO salaries for staff in the Professional category are calculated in US dollars. The remuneration for the above position comprises an annual base salary starting at USD 49,254 (subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance, as applicable), a variable post adjustment, which reflects the cost of living in a particular duty station, and currently amounts to USD 1432 per month for the duty station indicated above. Other benefits include 30 days of annual leave, allowances for dependent family members, home leave, and an education grant for dependent children.
