Expected duration 8 February 2022 (at the latest) to 30 June 2022.

Duties and Responsibilities Background

The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) aims to conserve terrestrial, aquatic and avian migratory species throughout their range. It is an intergovernmental treaty, concluded under the aegis of the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP), concerned with the conservation of wildlife and habitats on a global scale. As an "umbrella" Convention, CMS maintains close institutional and programmatic linkages with its associated instruments, including with those agreements that are legally independent. The "parent" Convention, CMS, and its "daughter" agreements are often collectively referred to as the "CMS Family".

The CMS Secretariat is seeking a report writer to serve at the following meetings (based on online recordings, live online and/or in-person meeting):

  • 6th Meeting of the CMS Multi-stakeholder Energy Task Force (online; 9-10 February 2022)
  • 5th Meeting of the CMS Intergovernmental Task Force on Illegal Killing, Taking and Trade of Migratory Birds in the Mediterranean (MIKT) (= 4th Joint Meeting Bern Convention SFPs and CMS MIKT on Illegal Killing, Taking and Trade of Wild Birds; Valencia, Spain, May 2022, tbc)

Responsibilities

The report writer is needed to write the accurate summaries of these meetings. These reports shall be produced as soon as possible within the contract period and provided to the Secretariat for comments. Based on the comments received, these reports should be amended and submitted to the Secretariat for final approval.

Qualifications/special skills Competency: a. Planning and organizing: Ability to plan own work, to prioritize multiple tasks within set deadlines;

b. Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to draft and edit policy, technical and communications documents; knowledge of production and dissemination of public information;

c. Professionalism: Demonstrates professional competence and mastery of subject matter; knowledge of CMS and its associated instruments.

Academic Qualifications: Postgraduate degree/ diploma.

Experience: Five years of experience in report writing in international environmental meetings is required.

Language: Fluency in oral and written English is essential.

Additional Information - The remuneration will be in line with the UN fee and remuneration levels for consultants and individual contractors. - The successful candidate will neither hold civil servant status nor be a ‘staff member’ as defined in the UN Staff Rules and Regulations. - All applications will be treated in strict confidence.
