Duties and Responsibilities This consultancy assignment is with the United Nations Global Compact Office (UNGCO), located in the Global Operations Team in China.

The United Nations Global Compact is the United Nations' voluntary corporate sustainability initiative in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment, and anti-corruption. It revolves around ten universal principles drawn from four key international instruments in these areas.

The Global Compact Office is the United Nations entity responsible for the overall management and coordination of the Global Compact initiative. It pursues two complementary objectives: (1) making the Global Compact and its principles part of business strategy and operations everywhere; and (2) facilitating cooperation among key stakeholders by promoting partnerships and collective action in support of United Nations, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Responsibilities:

- Lead the research with the objective to develop a best practice report for major infrastructure sector under the Belt and Road framework through desk research, multi-stakeholder surveys/interviews, experts group formation and consultation, literature review, etc.

- Write the best practices report on BRI for the SDGs, with objective to inspire more companies to take action to implement ten principles of Global Compact and SDGs.

- Draft the criteria and indicators to select the potential best practice by considering both the SDGs and Global Compact Ten Principles, along with the source of practices, the representativeness of practices, information on how to visualize or present the collected best practices, such as through tables, graphs, or other visual aids through consultation meeting.

- Design a practices collection tool to record information of collected practices, such as a form or database. The name, source, location, influence, successful factors and faced challenges should be included.

- Call for, draft and select best practice examples from major infrastructure sectors under the BRI framework and SDGs that can be scaled globally through the data collection including desk study on open-source documents and information from governments and corporations, in-person visits and interviews.

- Organize consultation meetings to screen best practice examples before drafting the report.

- Draft the outline of the report and at least 20 cases at global level.

- Participate in the multi-stakeholders consultation meetings, collect comments and feedback and finalize the report.

- Edit report and ensure that the format and design can be used for the ‘BRI for the SDGs’ digital hub and repository.

- Participate in a launch event and disseminate the report in collaboration with website development consultant.

- Prepare the relevant communication materials designed for social media channels in collaboration with content development, event support and IT support consultant.

Qualifications/special skills First level university degree in in business administration, management, economics, environment, or a related field is required. Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) is desirable. A minimum of 10 years of experience in programme/project management related to business/corporate sustainability is required. Experience working on corporate sustainability in both public and private sector is desirable. Experience conducting research, designing surveys/questionnaires is desirable. Experience with data analysis is desirable.

Languages Fluency in English and Chinese is required.
