How can you make a difference?

UNICEF offers the opportunity for summer interns, talented university students, to gain valuable professional experience while being exposed to UNICEF's work. At the same time, UNICEF benefits from working with interns as they are a significant asset, providing updated academic knowledge, technical know-how and other valuable skills to the organization.

The Intern will join the Community Based Child Protection/Child Protection in Emergencies Team, and provide time-bound, specific support in the following programme support areas:

• Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E)/ Data analysis support: support trends analysis of NGO partners datasets; mapping of partners’ current M&E systems and technical support in strengthening data collection/tools/processes particularly for qualitative, outcome level data collection; design of specific pieces of evidence generation and knowledge management; support to drafting of donor proposals and donor reports, etc.)
• Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS): support for mapping of child protection programme and UNICEF Country Office MHPSS interventions, guidelines and tools to inform development of a MHPSS strategy and roadmap

1. DELIVERABLES

Key deliverables will include:

• Assessment of NGO partner’s M&E systems completed, and recommendations made for systems strengthening
• Relevant pieces of data analysis/evidence generation completed, including in support of donor proposal development/donor reporting
• Knowledge management products produced and operational
• Qualitative data collection tools developed in consultation with NGO partners, tested and rolled out
• MHPSS mapping completed

Duration: 26 weeks (preferably between 1st June and 30 November 2021)

Stipend:

In accordance to UNICEF's guidelines, interns will be paid a nominal stipend per month. There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.

Insurance: UNICEF will not be responsible for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during the intern's service, whether on or off UNICEF premises. Therefore, the selected candidate must provide proof of enrolment in a health/accident plan prior to start his/her work. If accepted, the intern will be required to provide a copy of health insurance coverage and to fill out the relevant UNICEF forms on conditions regarding service as an intern.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

• Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years - Applicants must be at least 18 years old. Academic field in IMS, Planning, M&E and Research is a strong advantage. Proficient academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records is required.
• To be fluent in English, with strong writing skills. Additionally, fluency in another official and working language of the UN would be an asset.
• Excellent use of Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
• Experience in and/or knowledge of gender, child protection, GBV, MHPSS, humanitarian response and development programmes is a strong asset .
• To have excellent academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records.
• Additional consideration will be given for any past experience in related fields.
