These are central elements for improving the quality and effectiveness of our humanitarian and development programmes and ensuring affected populations can fulfil their rights to participate and be heard.

The Accountability to Affected Populations Unit in the Office of Emergency Programmes - Geneva, is leading the implementation of UNICEF AAP roadmap globally. The Unit ensures a systematic and coherent organization-wide approach to AAP is embedded in existing processes and systems; so that it becomes an integral part of good-quality programming in development and humanitarian situations alike. It supports the application of AAP approaches at the regional and country level and since 2020 co-leads the Risk Communication and Community Engagement pillar of the global response to COVID-19, together with IFRC and WHO trough the Collective Service (RCCE CS).

How can you make a difference?

The interns will work remotely and will report to the AAP Specialist and Social and Behavioral Change Specialist and will work in strict collaboration with members of the team.

Major Duties and Responsibilities******Output (Achie****vement) Expected1) Support development and dissemination of information, communication, and advocacy materials in preparation of meetings, webinars and trainings, by compiling and summarizing information, and designing presentations, in coordination with the AAP/CS team, and regional and country offices when applies.Short reports, news articles, newsletters, fact sheets, power point presentations, databases, etc.2) Support the logistics and coordination, attend and report on internal and external working groups, meetings and events; contributing to identify areas of opportunity and proposing solutions to improve the meetings/events and their outcomes.Meetings organized; meeting/events’ summaries, minutes and briefs drafted and disseminated.3) Identify, document and support sharing AAP and RCCE CS best practices though analysis of country reports, relevant documents, tools and presentations.Examples of best practices recorded and presented in different formats.4) Maintain online platforms and repositories built on SharePoint, Teams, Google and Drupal: AAP team site, AAP UNICEF intranet site, AAP Community of Practice platforms, RCCE CS online platforms (on SharePoint and Google); Accountability & Inclusion portal.Databases, libraries, resources, and online platforms uploaded.5) Supports the day-to-day coordination, development and management of the team’s workplan, procurement and editorial services, and other tasks as deemed necessary.Team supported with ad-hoc tasks based on needs.6) Identify an ongoing project or process and develop and implement a proposal to innovate or enhance its workflow, communication, logistics and/or outcomes, in agreement with the supervisor and the team.Project implemented as a final product of the internship.To qualify as an advocate for every child, you will have…

Qualifications

  • Be enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or Ph.D. degree programme or have graduated within the past two years in the field of International Relations/Affairs, Political Science, Anthropology, Social Sciences or Communications;
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old;
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is an advantage;
  • Have strong academic performance as demonstrated by recent university or institution records or, if not available, a reference letter from an academic supervisor;
  • Have no immediate relatives (e.g. father, mother, brother, sister) working in any UNICEF office;
  • Have no other relatives in the line of authority which the intern will report to
  • Not be disqualified under the UNICEF Child Safeguarding Personnel Standards(DHR/STANDARDS/2019/001), or as amended;
  • Additional consideration will be given for any past experience.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

Duration: 6 months (May - October 2022)

Location: Selected interns will be working full-time remotely / home-based, and will be governed by and subject to UNICEF’s General Terms and Conditions for interns. Working hours at the duty station are from 9 a.m. till 6:00 p.m. Geneva time. Interns should be available online during given hours for any meetings/team discussions and would normally adopt those hours as working hours unless, due to time difference, other hours are agreed with the hiring section during the interview.

Stipend: In accordance to UNICEF's guidelines, selected interns will be provided a monthly stipend during the internship. Actual stipend amount will be based on the location of the selected intern. There is no expectancy of employment at the end of the internship.

Insurance: Interns must have appropriate medical and accident coverage for the given duty station and provide a proof of such insurance to HR along with other required documents prior to commencement of the internship.

Mandatory Courses: Selected interns will be requested to complete online mandatory courses prior to commencement of the internship.

Equipment: UNICEF will not provide IT equipment, nor will cover internet connectivity costs. The interns are expected to use their own equipment and have access to internet.

Leave: Interns may take up to 2.5 days per month off work for any reason, including for medical reasons. The stipend will be reduced for any absence beyond this quota. The quota is cumulative over the duration of the internship, but there will be no compensation or carry-over to another appointment for unused leave days at the end of the internship.

Unless otherwise authorized by the hiring office, interns may not communicate at any time to the media or to any institution, person, government or any external source any information which has become known to them by reasons of their association with UNICEF. They may not use any such information without the written authorization, and such information may never be used for personal gain. These obligations do not lapse after the end of the internship.

Interns shall refrain from any conduct that would adversely reflect on UNICEF and not engage in any activity which is incompatible with the aims and objectives of UNICEF.

The UNICEF internship programme is not connected with employment and there is no expectancy of such. Interns cannot apply for posts advertised internally to UNICEF staff during the period of internship.
