POSITION TITLE: Employment Intern (Remote)
TYPE OF SERVICE: Direct AND/OR indirect
PROGRAM: Employment
SUPERVISOR: Employment Specialist
CONNECTION TO MISSION: Obtaining steady employment is crucial to the economic stability and overall wellbeing of clients arriving to the U.S.
LOCATION: Remote, from home
TIME COMMITMENT: schedule TBD by intern and Employment Specialist.
PLEASE NOTE THIS IS AN UNPAID POSITION
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
· Assist Employment Specialist along all steps of the employment program, including initial client intake, interview and resume preparation, job referrals, and placement follow-ups
· Arrange client meetings with employers to complete interviews, new hire paperwork, and training activities by scheduling transportation and coordinating with employer
· Co-lead Job Readiness Training (JRT), a biweekly course to prepare recently arrived clients for their first job in the U.S., via Zoom
· Assessing client needs for additional support, such as mentorship through IRC’s volunteer program and driver’s permit resource through ReEstablish Richmond (ReR)
· Research and contact businesses in the Richmond and Henrico area to expand job opportunities available to clients, develop employer partnerships, and update weekly job listings
· Schedule client appointments, track and file documentation, and call clients to remind them of upcoming appointments
RESPONSIBILITIES AND EXPECTATIONS:
· Be flexible. Last-minute changes are expected when working with clients.
· Be ambitious! The employment intern will take initiative to “meet” with clients and employers via phone or Zoom and will take on independent projects.
· Review the IRC Intern Agreement and conduct yourself accordingly at all times.
· Remember that IRC Richmond is a professional office so all interns are expected to dress accordingly when on duty.
· Report your internship hours by the end of each month.
