You have:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A Bachelor Degree in Journalism, International Relations, Economics, Political Science, or equivalent disciplines is desirable.
- At least two years of relevant working experience in journalism/publishing or related area is required.
- Fluency in English is required.
- Fluency in French is desirable.
Result of Service The consultant will submit story packages (article, photos, video) on a monthly basis for publishing on Africa Renewal's channels.
Work Location Remote
Expected duration The initial contract will be six (6) months.
Duties and Responsibilities This consultancy is located in the Africa Section, Communications Campaigns Service of the Strategic Communications Division/Department of Global Communication. We are seeking writers to cover Northern Africa, Central or Middle Africa , Southern Africa, East Africa, and Western Africa. The consultant will report to the Chief of the Africa Section and will be responsible for the following duties and responsibilities:
Researching and writing, in a journalistic style, analytical feature articles on a range of substantive issues that are suitable for publication in Africa Renewal, for posting on www.africarenewal.org, and in other outlets available to the UN.
Proposing story ideas for Africa Renewal, as well as other highly-targeted information materials, and recommending suggestions for reaching target audiences.
Monitoring and analyzing current events, public opinion and press, identifying issues and trends, and advising management on appropriate action/responses particularly in Africa and other developing countries.
Qualifications/special skills Academic Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. A Bachelor Degree in Journalism, International Relations, Economics, Political Science, or equivalent disciplines is desirable. Experience: At least two years of relevant working experience in journalism/publishing or related area is required. Language: English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required.
