Overview

Support gender mainstreaming and integration in WFP programs across the region.

You have:

  • Advanced University Degree in Gender Studies, International development, International Affairs, Social and Political Sciences or related fields.
  • 5-7 years of experience working in Programme and/or Gender with deepened technical knowledge of GEWE.
  • Experience in undertaking gender analysis and applying gender tools.
  • Good writing, communication, and presentations skills.
  • Proficient in the use of office equipment and software packages such as Microsoft Office Suite.

JOB PURPOSE

The Regional Gender Adviser is expected to support gender mainstreaming across WFP The role of Gender in the Regional Bureau in Cairo (RBC) is to ensure the mainstreaming and integration of gender in the design, implementation, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of WFP’s programmes across the region and is responsible of working with all the country offices in the RBC region

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Advanced University Degree, preferably in Gender Studies, International development, International Affairs, Social and Political Sciences, or other related fields, or First University Degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.

Essential experience: • 5-7 years of experience working in Programme and/or Gender with deepened technical knowledge of GEWE. • Has deepened technical knowledge through exposure to technical teams. • Has provided input into policy discussions and decisions. • Experience in working with partners and gender working groups

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

• Experience in undertaking gender analysis • Experience in applying gender tools (Gender and Age Marker) • Good writing, communication, and presentations skills and ability to review documents and provide constructive comments.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge of major humanitarian and development challenges and issues, specifically strategies and/or policies at global/regional/national level for enhanced GEWE.
  • Proficient in the use of office equipment and computer software packages, such as Microsoft Word and Power Point.
  • Proficient in the use of the data analytical tools (e.g.: excel and SPSS and/or Stata).
  • Ability to use the qualitative and quantitative techniques to conduct social researches.
  • Capacity to work independently and in collaboration with colleagues in the Regional Bureau and Country Offices.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and deliver quality outputs.
  • Ability to work effectively with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Contribute towards the development of a wide variety of gender transformative activities, plans and processes in the Country Offices in the region, ensuring alignment with the United Nations System-Wide Action Plan on Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN SWAP) and the new Gender Policy (2022-2026);
  2. Support in the implementation of the Gender Policy (2022-2026) objectives, through rolling out and ensuring the right implementation of the WFP gender mainstreaming tools in the region, such as Gender Transformation Programme, IASC Gender and Age Marker, Gender Results Network, and the Regional Gender Action Plan;
  3. Promote effective information-sharing by leading the knowledge management and gender and communication-related matters, and supporting the organization with external presentations, products, and events showcasing WFP experience and learning;
  4. Develop and coordinate data gathering, monitoring, and oversight systems ensuring that gender is integrated into all programme evaluations, reports, and analyses done at the Country Offices or at the regional level;
  5. Contribute to and support the Country Offices in the preparation of accurate and timely gender reporting on programmes and activities that enable informed decision making and consistency of information;
  6. Liaise with internal and external counterparts to ensure effective collaboration, monitor programmes and highlight potential gender and protection risks to project delivery;
  7. Support the gender capacity building of WFP staff, partners and national government to prepare for and respond to food assistance needs, e.g. through providing inputs into training materials;
  8. Support in the development and management of potential partnerships to identify areas for improvement and mutual accountability for integrating Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment (GEWE) into WFP food assistance; and
  9. Perform other duties as required.
