This is a UNV National Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as National UN Volunteer. It is normally only for nationals. More about UNV National Specialist contracts.

The UNV Regional Offices (RO) provide oversight and strategic guidance to the UNV Field Units in their respective geographical assignments and are mainly accountable for the placement of UN Volunteers mobilized for UN Agencies, Funds, and Programmes focused on peace, development, and humanitarian needs. Furthermore, the Regional Offices represent, and strategically position, UNV and bring UNV’s services and solutions closer to its partners from governments, UN entities, civil society, and private sector. The Regional Offices also lead in scoping and delivering UNV’s advisory service offer on volunteer infrastructure. The Regional Communications Specialist on Advocacy and Social Media will support the increased presence of the regional office on social platforms, ensure enhanced visibility of the UNV operations in the region, contribute to innovative communications solutions for promotion of the UNV service.

Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the Regional Manager or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the National UN Volunteer Regional Communications Specialist will:

• Contribute to communications needs assessment of the regional office and Field Units and analysis of communications channels in the region. • Conduct research of visibility of UNV at regional level and make recommendations • Design and produce audio-visual materials such as videos, animated videos, infographics, posters for website and social media, • Explore innovative ideas to present data highlighting impact results from UNV in the region in interactive ways on social media platforms. • Provide guidance and support to Field Units in the region to compile impact stories and present them in a creative way such as short videos, to increase the UNV visibility, • Monitor social media analytics, performance, track partner engagement, and identify ways to increase performance.
• Explore, research, and evaluate the latest trends and techniques to increase social media engagement. • Support regional portfolio team with advice and design of innovative visibility materials and publications, relevant to the corporate strategic priorities • Provide support for events and international days as required. • Support content management on the UNV website and monitor its visibility. • Perform any other duties as required by the regional management and/or direct supervisor.

Furthermore, UN Volunteers are required to:

• Strengthen key audience’s knowledge and understanding of the concept of volunteerism by reading and implementing relevant UNV and external publications as a regular content base. • Take an active part in UNV activities (such as the celebration of International Volunteer Day); • Support in drafting articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/website, newsletters, press releases, PowerPoint presentations, etc. • Support the implementation of the UNV Regional Communications Plan for Asia and the Pacific. • Respond to other ongoing various information requests from UNV Regional Manager and Communications Officer. • Be acquainted with and build on traditional and/or local forms of volunteerism in the host country. • Reflect on the type and quality of voluntary action that they are undertaking, including participation in ongoing reflection activities. • Contribute to articles/write-ups on field experiences and submit them for UNV publications/websites, newsletters, press releases, etc. • Promote or advise local groups in using online volunteering or encourage relevant local individuals and organizations to use the UNV Online Volunteering service whenever technically possible. • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information; and • Perform other necessary assignments as required.

• Enhanced engagement with the target audiences in social media. • Number innovative visibility materials and publications designed and produced • Improved awareness about UNV and volunteerism through outreach and campaigns on social media. • Enhanced UNV’s visibility • Strengthened Asia Pacific content production for UNV Regional office, Field Units for website and social media.

• Professionalism: demonstrated understanding of operations relevant to UN Volunteers Programme; technical capabilities or knowledge relevant or transferrable to UN Volunteers Programme procedures and rules; discretion, political sensitivity, diplomacy and tact to deal with clients; ability to apply good judgement; ability to liaise and coordinate with a range of different actors, especially in senior positions; where appropriate, high degree of autonomy, personal initiative and ability to take ownership; resourcefulness and willingness to accept wide responsibilities and ability to work independently under established procedures; ability to manage information objectively, accurately and confidentially; responsive and client-oriented;

• Flexibility: adaptability and ability to live and work in potentially hazardous and remote conditions, involving physical hardship and little comfort; to operate independently in austere environments for protracted periods; willingness to travel within the area of operations and to transfer to other duty stations within the area of operations as necessary.

• Genuine commitment towards the principles of voluntary engagement, which includes solidarity, compassion, reciprocity, and self-reliance; and commitment towards UN Volunteers Programme’s mission and vision, as well as to the UN Core Values.

Communications, Digital Marketing, Digital Media, Public Relations, Media Studies, or any other related field.

• Professional experience in digital marketing, communications, social media. • Experience in developing social media content – such as writing for social media, designing social media cards, preparing audio- visual content is a must.
• Ability to write and draft social media messaging in English is a must • Familiarity with video editing and design software tools such as Adobe Premier, Final Cut, Adobe After effect is a must • Computer skills (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and others). • Good grasp of social media management and digital media in a professional setting- news sites, websites, blogs, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and social media analytics, • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or knowledge of another culture, (i.e., studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded. • Motivated to contribute towards peace and development and to serve others. • Good interpersonal, networking and communication skills. • Willingness to contribute and work as part of a team. • Flexible and open to learning and new experiences. • Respect for diversity and adaptability to other cultures, environments and living conditions.
