Regional Communication Assistant

Eligibility criteria
Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.
Description of task
Under the direct supervision of [the Regional Communication Specialist], the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:
Support the Regional Communication Specialist in the management of UN Women media/press relations ·
- Drafting media materials
- Contacting the press around events and campaigns
- Media monitoring
- Press releases and media kits drafted.
- Helping organize media events
Supporting regional online outreach and production of information materials for public outreach ·
- Support the overseeing of the regional web site technically and editorially and assist coordination of the web presence of multi-country and COs in the region and in line with the corporate web policy.
- Support management of regional social media accounts in line with corporate social media policy
- Support drafting of brochures, fact sheets, stories from the field to inform media and the general public.
- Supporting CO’s and MCO’s with formatting and editing of program initiatives and reports for donor review.
Support to UN Women special events and campaigns ·
- Communications components of UN Women and/or UN campaigns, implemented, e.g. Say NO to Violence against Women campaign; 16 days of activism, Generation Equality, CSW, International days.
- Supporting organization of special events with a view to reaching wider audiences; to that end, concepts conceived, and relevant materials developed and compiled.
Support coordination of communication activities with UN communication colleagues at regional /national level ·
- Regular liaison with Communications Officers from other UN entities at the regional / country level to provide UN Women inputs to joint UN initiatives, collection of storytelling articles, and regional updates for information bulletins.
- Support new communications partnerships and media alliances to enhance the visibility and cement UN Women
Assist with administrative procedures
- On behalf of the communication team, liaising with various WCARO units: finance, procurement, HR, outside vendors, etc.
Qualifications/Requirements
Required degree level:
Bachelor degree or equivalent

Required experience:
24 Months
Experience remark:
- Up-to-date and in-depth knowledge of communication principles applied to non-governmental organizations
- In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media and web 2.0 platforms, with demonstrated experience generating engaging content,
- Experience working with the media nationally or regionally
- Experience working on issues related to development, especially in Africa
Experience in editing documents, reports, publication
Language skills:
- French(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
- English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
Area of expertise:
Journalism, mass media and broadcasting, Other communications related experience, Development programme/project administration
