About the IRC: Founded in 1933, the IRC is a leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees and victims of oppression or violent conflict. In the U.S., the IRC resettles approximately 11,000 refugees per year and provides numerous program services to assist the refugee from their arrival through citizenship. The IRC in Salt Lake City opened it office in 1994 and provides resettlement services through extended case management to newly arrived refugees for up to 24-months as well as over twenty different programs to educate and empower refugees.

Job Overview: Refugee Community Liaison

Major Responsibilities include but not limited to: --------------------------------------------------

- Provide accurate, impartial, and confidential interpretation to LEP individuals and service providers in a variety of settings, including clinics, hospitals, schools, community-based organizations, and government agencies. Services may be rendered in-person, via telephone, videoconference, or other virtual means. - Facilitate client workshops and education in the areas of health, financial literacy, social services and other program areas. - Under the direction of program coordinators, assist with outreach events and recruit clients for workshops among refugee community members. - Assist clients in filling out a variety of forms for program eligibility, school enrollments/waivers, registration and medical history, and legal paperwork. - Help strengthen IRC community engagement and communication among refugee communities in Salt Lake County, as representatives of those communities. - Communicate across IRC teams to ensure that client services are being provided without duplication of efforts. - Track assignments and work hours within designated software. - Participate in trainings and assessments. - May require providing transportation of clients to appointments. - Comply with all policies and protocols of the agency. - May support special projects and initiatives. - Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

•High school diploma strongly preferred. •Successfully complete Bridging the Gap Medical Training or provide proof of completion. •Ability to translate written materials is a plus, but not a requirement.

Work Experience:

•Relevant professional interpretation experience preferred. •Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations strongly preferred. Demonstrated Skills & Competencies: •Cultural sensitivity; ability to build trust with clients, colleagues, and partners. •Proficient in English, both spoken and written. •Spoken proficiency in one or more of the following languages: Kinyarwanda, Swahili (Kiswahili), and Dari. •Attention to detail and accuracy in work product. •Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office). •Reliable transportation to appointment locations.

Working Environment:

•A combination of standard office environment, remote work, and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities. •May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
