The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) has opened the recruitment process for a National Post (with Local salary scale) of the Recreational Facilitator within the within the GIZ funded project “Social cohesion of people on the move and local population in Serbia”. The objective of the project is to support social participation of people on the move and local population in the Republic of Serbia though improvement of the work and life skills of people on the move and local population in host communities and through strengthening social interaction and social participation.

Position: Recreational Facilitator – (30 % of the full working hours)

Period of engagement: 2 months (October 2023 and June 2024)

Basic functions: The Recreational Facilitator primary function is to ensure quality implementation of the recreational activities in synergy with other project activities during the implementation of the project “Social cohesion of people on the move and local population in Serbia”. Project activities include: different non-formal education workshops organized in and outside the asylum/reception centers for the people on the move and local community, community gathering events attended by people on the move and local population, language classes, IT training and similar.

Reference: The Recreational Facilitator refers to the Head of Programme and works in close cooperation with the Project staff.

Specific duties and responsibilities:

  • Assess the recreation requirements of the beneficiaries;
  • Communicate with people on the move to determine their needs and interests;
  • Prepare and implement recreational activities schedules;
  • Handle development and implementation of programs according to age and capability of beneficiary group;
  • Schedule, lead and supervise recreational activities;
  • Conduct recreational and sports activities with persons on the move from the centers and joint activities with people from the local community;
  • To use the local public spaces, such as sport clubs, public sports outdoors and indoors facilities as much as possible for the implementation of recreational and sport activities;
  • Prepare and arrange a joint friendly match with local sport club for people on the move and local sport club;
  • Take into account Covid-19 pandemic, including associated restrictions and recommendations coming from relevant authorities when designing and implementing activities, ensuring PoCs and personal safety;
  • Encourage beneficiaries to participate in activities by showing them how they are done;
  • Ensure sport and recreation programs are planned and implemented;
  • Provide participants with lists of rules and regulations for each activity that they are involved in;
  • Assist with and facilitate local involvement of community in recreational activities;
  • Organize and set up the equipment that is used in recreational activities;
  • Provide reports about recreation programs and activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & experience required

  • Bachelor degree related to sport science or high school diploma coupled with relevant working experience of at least 1 year;
  • Experience on refugee/migration related issues would be an asset

Skills and Work Experience:

  • At least 1 years of experience in provision of recreation activities, preferably within refugee/displacement programs.
  • Understanding the psychosocial support needs of people on the move in asylum/reception centres.
  • Strong connections with recreational/sport clubs, sport professionals and sport community;
  • Experience in organizing recreational activities in the community.

Key Competencies

  • Ability to work in a multicultural context as a flexible and respectful team player;
  • Problem solving, analytical and writing skills, with the ability to produce reports for internal and external use;
  • Displays cultural, gender, religion, race, nationality and age sensitivity and adaptability.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Serbian,
  • Knowledge of English is an asset;
  • Computer literacy (Microsoft Word and Excel);
