UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, Hope

UNICEF’s areas of work include Child protection, Child survival, Education, Emergencies, Social policy, Gender, Supply and logistics, research, evidence, analysis and innovations. Although the world has made tremendous progress in advancing the rights and improving the lives of children over the past few decades, persistent inequities and lack of opportunity continue to endanger the lives and futures of millions of children around the world. Persistent risks like humanitarian emergencies and extreme poverty, climate change and environmental degradation make vulnerable children even more vulnerable.

The IA&HP team strengthens and develops humanitarian partnerships. The IA&HP supports UNICEF’s active participation in the Inter Agency Standing Committee (IASC) at both Principals, OPAG, and Emergency Director levels. The section provides substantive guidance and coordinates institutional contributions to the IASC systemwith designated focal points throughout the organization.

IAHP manages bilateral collaboration and dialogue with UN agencies in Geneva (ex. UNHCR, IOM), as well as WFP and OHCHR. This includes global Memoranda of Understanding with selected key agencies as well as the inter-agency dialogue on implementation of emergency reform processes, the Grand Bargain and follow-up to the Summit for Refugees and Migrants, including the two related Compacts (GCR & GCM).

IAHP forms part of an inter-agency collaboration to build capacity for preparedness, resilience, and to systematically support these areas at country level.. The Section is also the focal point for the Capacity for Disaster Reduction Initiative (CADRI) partnership, for ad hoc inter-agency preparedness initiatives (Projects with OFDA, UNITAR), for the IASC Reference Group on Risk Analysis, Early Warning and Preparedness, and the work around the Index for Risk Management – INFORM.

In addition, IA&HP strengthens the contribution of EMOPS to fostering effective operational alliances with NGOs and the IFRC. Cooperation will be fostered through regular consultations with these partners and engagement on substantive issues to bring EMOPS’ work closer to children, enhance engagement with frontline responders and enhance operational work The team also develops and manages partnerships with 30 stand-by partner organizations as well as the deployment of flexible, qualified external emergency surge capacity for programmatic and cluster support roles.
