Purpose of Activity/Assignment:

Since 2016, UNICEF is responding to the unique needs of adolescents and young people who are seeking asylum in Europe, on the move, stranded or pushed back. The operation established in Italy aims to provides support to the Government of Italy on children and young migrants and refugees, to ensure timely, equal and appropriate care, protection and support for their social inclusion, as part of the Regional Migrant and Refugee Response.

In Italy, UNICEF’s country office is implementing three main programmes. The Youth & Adolescent Development programme focuses on participation and skills building activities to guarantee Unaccompanied Minors (UASC) and young migrants and refugees have access to key information, have their voices heard and are empowered to take the lead and have the skills and competencies needed for their social inclusion in Italy. The focus of the Child Protection and Gender-Based Violence programmes is access to key life protecting information, promotion of uptake of services, identification and referral of at-risk boys and girls to relevant services, including psychosocial assistance, GBV services and access to alternative care and guardianship.

Scope of the work:

Working closely with the Communication Assistant, the consultant will contribute to strengthen donors’ support to UNICEF's mission and objectives in the country and enhance the organization’s credibility and brand. This will ensure the consolidation and management of a donor portfolio in favour of the programmatic needs.

Tasks under this consultancy:

Under the supervision of the Communication Assistant, the consultant will undertake the following activities:

  • Assist in the preparation of the Donor workplan and indicators, activities, metrics and criteria (reporting, systems, performance evaluation, goals);
  • Manage a Donor portfolio in a timely, accurate and coordinated manner;
  • Lead the coordination and creation of any proposals or concept notes as required by the office; conceptualize and produce compelling omnichannel donor communication pieces, i.e., email, printed materials, etc) to enhance donor retention and loyalty.
  • Monitor, analyze, and improve donor support.

How can you make a difference?

- Work location: Home-based in Italy with travels within Italy. The consultant will be responsible for organizing their travel. All travel expenses (tickets, accommodation, public transport, meals) will be reimbursed. The maximum amount for travel overall will be EUR 4,000.

- Payment schedule: The consultant will be paid based on satisfactory and timely submission of deliverables.

- Duration: 132 days between December 2023 and October 2024

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • University degree in international relations, political science, communications, corporate communication, international development, or another relevant technical field and at least five years of professional experience in resource mobilization, donor reporting, donor relations, or related fields is required;
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in the production of donor communication pieces;

  • Demonstrated excellence in donor report and proposal quality assurance is highly advantageous.

  • Fluency in Italian and English is required;

Desired:

  • Previous experience with the work on migration issues will be considered an asset;
  • Previous experience with UNICEF or other UN Agencies will be considered an asset.

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
