How can you make a difference?

The Communication Assistant supports the Communication and Advocacy section’s interventions, including media relations, strategic partnerships building and public advocacy. In line with UNICEF Ukraine’s advocacy and communication priorities as well as donor visibility and recognition requirements, this post will assist the Communication team in the day-to-day management of communication work. In close coordination with the programme and emergency teams, the communication section focuses on enhancing UNICEF’s digital presence in Ukraine, share of voice and public engagement. In addition to core roles, the communication team provides the country team with professional expertise and guidance on all aspects of external communication, while also acting upon UNICEF’s global communication priorities in a locally-appropriate way.

Having the increased role of the communication function due to the ongoing emergency, the Communication Assistant will report to the Communication Specialist, while supporting external and media relations, strategic partnership building with key target groups, digital outreach, public campaigns in support of effective programme delivery, the timely production of communication assets and organization of advocacy events. Also, Communication Assistant will report to Communication Specialist, including effective outreach to key audiences, capacity building activities, and innovations. The Communication Assistant is responsible for administrative services and financial support of moderate scope and difficulty of Communication and Advocacy Section

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

Communication Materials

  • Ensure timely production of various communication products for advocacy purposes in line with the communication strategy.
  • Gather content of relevant country efforts to develop communication materials for dissemination through social and traditional media channels.
  • Support the production of information materials (human interest stories, multimedia products, press releases) that meet quality standards.

    Event Management

  • Provide support with planning communication and public events for the office

  • Assist with organizing media and advocacy events with main partner organizations, including corporates, embassies, educational institutions, sport entities
  • Support during the field visits, donor and media tours.
  • Collect and make available for the sections relevant visibility guidelines per donor/partner.

Financial and administrative support

  • Organize data and information, maintains records, files and work plans for the monitoring of project/programme implementation.
  • Assist in the financial (i.e. VISION processing) and administrative processes for the communication and advocacy sections including preparation of contracts, procurement requests, PCAs, processing payments.
  • Regularly monitoring budgets and financial expenditures of section by employing applicable tools, ensuring compliance with UNICEF rules and regulations, keeping
  • supervisor informed and advised on actions for decision and/or follow up.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Assist in monitoring the annual budget of the communication & C4D sections and financial expenditures.
  • Assist in data collection and analysis in line with KPIs outlined in the communication strategy, including media monitoring, digital assets stats, survey on the public perception of UNICEF in the country, and other relevant thematic researches.
  • Maintain and update media database for the Country Office, and the publication check-list.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Education:

Secondary education, preferably supplemented by technical or university courses related to the work of the organization. Courses, trainings on media, communication, and digital will be an advantage.

Bachelor Degree in Communication, Media/Social science related area will be an asset.

Experience:

Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, including record–keeping and processing of information, of which at least one year is closely related to support of programme or communication activities. Experience in international organizations/UN system will be an asset.

Language Requirements:

Fluency in English and Ukrainian is required.

Knowledge of other UN languages will be an asset.
