ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

These jobs are found in Country Offices (COs). Job holders typically report to a Programme Policy Officer or Head of Field Office. At this level, job holders are expected to demonstrate responsibility and initiative to respond independently to various queries with only general guidance. There is a requirement to use judgment in dealing with unforeseen operational problems on a daily basis. Job holders are expected to manage resources and coach and coordinate support staff.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Support the heads of RAM and VAM in setting up a food security surveillance system such as the mVAM and Food Security Monitoring System (FSMS);
  2. Participate in food security and vulnerability assessments by supporting the preparation of questionnaires, data collection, data analysis using SPSS, STATA or R and drafting of reports/bulletins;
  3. Provide technical support to both WFP staff and government counterparts to strengthen capacities of the government in vulnerability assessments, food security and nutrition assessments to effectively inform preparedness and response activities;
  4. Assist in the extraction of relevant data and production of data visualization and mapping such as target villages, priority locations for SOs;
  5. Support in the development of VAM reports;
  6. Support the development of systems and tools for the monitoring and assessment of food security and nutrition needs in line with innovative methodologies and best practice and to ensure such work are timely and responsive to programmatic needs and adjustments;

7. Provide assistance on the coordination of data gathering and monitoring systems ensuring that rigorous quality standards are maintained;

8. Support the development of information products such as a seasonal monitor, price bulletins and food security monitoring reports;

9. Assist with compiling/cleaning spatial, non-spatial tabular data which will contain predefined base indicators and related for spatial data infrastructure including food security; socio-economic, agro-ecological, nutrition; health, and vulnerability;

10. Contribute to the development of VAM projects and activities, plans and processes, ensuring alignment with wider WFP policies and guidance;

11. Other deliverables as deemed required by the supervisor.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: University degree in economics, agriculture, social sciences, development studies, statistics, or related

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different.

DESIRED EXPERIENCES FOR ENTRY INTO THE ROLE

  • At least 5 years experience in data collection and analysis
  • Experience in data analysis using statistical software such as SPSS, STATA, R and GIS;
  • Experience interacting with partners and other stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of several statistical tools and methods;
  • Developed practical expertise in analysis and mapping by participating in multiple assessments.
