Provide risk-informed analysis and support strategic UN initiatives.
You have:
- A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in economic and social development, economics, sustainable development or other related international relation issues.
- Fluency in written and spoken Spanish and English is required.
- Advanced university degree in development, economics, public policy, sociology, or other related social sciences.
- Previous working experience with UN organizations would be an asset.
- Strong analytical, reporting, and writing abilities skills.
- Excellent presentation and facilitation skills.
- Openness to change and ability to receive/integrate feedback.
Result of Service The consultant's service will contribute to the analytical capacity of the RC Office on main international and national developments, sociopolitical events and domestic dynamics regarding international insertion trends.
Work Location HAVANA
Expected duration The duration of the contract is for 12 months, starting from the signature date of the contract.
Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Resident Coordinator, the RC advisor will be responsible for the following duties: - Provide risk-informed analysis to the Resident Coordinator (RC) and the UN Country Team (UNCT) on context developments and dynamics. This would also require identifying appropriate thematic ‘entry points’, proposing concrete, actionable and timely recommendations for consideration by the RC; - Regularly brief the RC / UNCT on the impact of international developments in the national context. Contribute to the preparation of the RC Office report as an input to the UN Secretary General’s Report on the US embargo against Cuba. - Support the regular update of the Common Country Assessment (CCA), which informs the design and implementation of the UN Cooperation Framework; - Facilitate the linking of political economy considerations and political analysis and strategies as well as risk-informed approaches to the UN’s programmatic and policy engagement at the country-level; and - Engage with academia in research and analyses on socioeconomic and political themes, including areas such as climate-related security risk, to identify entry points, foster dialogue and strengthen strategic alliances. - Support RC dialogue with Special Envoys, Special Representatives of the Secretary-General, political missions and offices where relevant.
