About the job

The overall role of the Radio Operator is to ensure that he/she carries out duties correctly and record details of all communications received and transmitted on the appropriate Logs sheets. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

The Radio Operator's responsibilities and duties are listed below and may be revised as necessary

  • During operating hours the operations radio room is to be manned during the working week. Any change to this must be approved by the Operations Manager ( OM ) or deputizing TFM
  • Radio Operators are to sign in on the communications log sheet at the beginning of the shift.
  • Go through the communications log from the previous day. Make sure there are no unactioned messages.
  • Go through radio room equipment inventory list as well as the equipment to ensure it is all there and working correctly before you sign to accept responsibility.
  • if there and any discrepancies this is to be brought to the attention of the OM or deputizing TFM as soon as possible.
  • Check radio room stationery and replenish if necessary
  • Complete a radio check to operators in the field
  • Ensure all communications are logged and written in English in the communications log.
  • Make note of all staff-related issues from the field. Sickness, weather absentees, visits, vehicle, and stores
  • NEVER leave the radio room unattended whilst the operators are working in the field. If there is a requirement to leave get permission from the OM or TFM.
  • At NO time is the power to be disconnected
  • At the end of each shift you must sign off and prepare notes for handover. They must include the following : Security updates
  1. All on going vehicle movements
  2. All ongoing operations
  3. Any communication problems
  4. Any other related issues that may be relevant
  5. Radio Operators are to sign off on the communications log sheet at the end of the shift
  6. The Radio Operator reports to Operations Manager or deputizing Technical Field Manager

About you

  • Experience in the operation of HF and VHF radio voice systems ( such as Codan and Motorola equipment ) is an asset.
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages ( MS Office ) is an asset.
  • Working experience in an INGO, context is an asset.
  • Ability to work flexible hours determined by the operational requirement

We are also expecting :

  • Secondary (High School ) Education.
  • Fluency in spoken and written Arabic and English.
  • Arabic - fluent in both written and oral.
  • English - fluent both written and oral.

We offer

Contract length: 6 MONTHS with possible extension subject to funding and performance

Designation of Duty Station: Benghazi

Start date: 1 July 2022

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment
