This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

Description of task

Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Health and Nutrition, the UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks:

Work with the Health Specialist to do the following

  • Support the National and subnational teams to plan, implement and monitor the National Maternal, Newborn, Child Health Quality of Care (MNCH QoC) operational guidelines in selected regions
  • Support the Ministry of Health to develop a national essential health services package for all levels of care

  • Assist the Ghana Health Service/Ministry of Health, to implement and monitor the Scaling Pneumonia Response Innovations programme

  • Strengthen emergency preparedness and response in the health sector including disease outbreaks such as Polio and COVID-19
  • Review and process direct cash transfer (DCT) requests including drafting activity reports
  • Draft quality donor proposals and reports
  • Support proposal development Any other related tasks as may be required or assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications/Requirements

Required degree level:

Master degree or equivalent

Education - Additional Comments:

Public Health, Medicine, Paediatrics, Child Development or a closely related technical field.

Required experience:

36 Months

Experience remark:

  • Demonstrated interest and experience in planning, implementation and monitoring of maternal, newborn and child health programmes, or a closely related field
  • Very good report writing, documentation and communication skills
  • Ability to analyse data and information from multiple sources and draft quality reports

  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office (MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook)

  • Have affinity with or interest in volunteerism as a mechanism for durable development, and the UN System.
  • Previous experience as a volunteer and/or experience of another culture, (i.e. studies, volunteer work, internship) would be highly regarded;

  • English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent

This assignment is funded by JICA, therefore only former Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JICA-JOCV) who could get recommendation by JICA-JOCV Secretariat are eligible to apply. Please check your application eligibility here: JICA website.

This is a UN Volunteer assignment and eligible candidates must be 25 years of age or older.

Selection process
