ITG’s goal is to provide greater effectiveness, efficiency, and differentiation to UNOPS products and services. UNOPS IT Group is responsible for architecting, designing, delivering, and managing all UNOPS IT infrastructure and business applications. The unit includes Enterprise Architects, Business Analysts, Solutions Designers, Developers and QA Testers from all around the world who are based primarily in Denmark and Thailand.

Functional Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of IT Delivery, the Quality Assurance (QA) Team Lead ensures that code and data released to production has high quality and that testing is done in a timely and effective manner to ensure continued benefits for the business without disruptions. The QA Team Lead will coordinate testing efforts across development teams in various locations, making test strategies and plans, increasing automated test coverage and making sure functionality delivered to production has high quality and minimum number of errors or issues. The QA Team Lead will work in close cooperation with teams across different locations and in close cooperation with stakeholders, team members and process leads. The QA Team Lead will be part of a dynamic development team utilizing different software development techniques

The QA Team Lead will perform the following duties:

  1. Team supervision and management
  2. Functional and technical expertise
  3. Knowledge management and innovation

1. Team supervision and management- Act as a mentor for the team and provide guidance to the team on relevant functional and technical matters - Monitor and manage team objectives and performance through the use of appropriate metrics. Monitor implementation and oversee progress - Establish team priorities, and supervise the implementation of work plans - Promote teamwork and collaboration by providing the team with clear direction, objectives and guidance to enable them to perform their duties responsibly, effectively and efficiently - Foster a positive work environment, respectful of both men and women, and ensure that the highest standards of conduct are observed - Coordinate between the QA team and Product Teams to communicate feedback and identify process improvement areas - Coordinate with external outsourcing partners with regards to including external QA resources temporarily on large projects.

2. Functional and technical expertise - Liaise with Product Managers and Solutions Designers to understand business and functional requirements for the purpose of test case creation - Write and execute test cases for given requirements / user stories in a timely manner with high quality; - Perform end user testing based upon provided requirement specifications / user stories; - Analyse users stories / use cases / requirements for validity and feasibility - Provide continuous feedback (both written and verbal) to product team members, product owners and end users in a clear and concise manner; - Test software using different techniques and employing appropriate approaches; - Lead interaction with development team members to identify and reproduce bugs and errors identified by end users; - Execute all levels of testing (System, Integration, and Regression) - Pro-actively identify risks and possible improvements; - Verify data quality and do root cause analysis; - Work with development team members and product managers to understand the scope of the projects and provide objective feedback - Stay updated with guidelines, policy, documentation to better understand how to test; - Act as a backup tester for other functional areas than the primary assigned - Drive the implementation of automated testing to optimise the use of resources

3. Knowledge management and innovation - Embeds relevant knowledge management and innovation within the team as well as across the organisation

  • Contributes to the development of internal capacity across the organization in the area of IT
  • Constantly monitors and evaluates UNOPS policies, procedures, methods, tools and associated systems to ensure its utility, applicability and efficacy
  • Recommends new policies and procedures and introduce innovation and best practices in business operations to enhance services
  • Leads / organises training and awareness / showcasing events and design / set training agendas to build capacity of stakeholders across the business

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education: - Master’s Degree, preferably in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Technology Management, Mathematics or other relevant discipline is required. - A Bachelor’s degree in combination with additional two years of experience may be accepted in lieu of master’s degree. - Secondary education in combination with additional six years of experience may be accepted in lieu of a master's degree

Experience: - Minimum 3 years of experience required in the software industry working with software and web based testing is required - Minimum of 3 years in a team management or mentoring role is required (this experience may be included in the above experience requirement) - QA testing certification is required - Understanding of different types of tests and approaches to testing is required

  • Exposure to one or more of the following business domains: Finance, Payroll, HR or Project Management is highly desired.
  • Experience with varying levels of testing/project complexity and understanding of different software methodologies or frameworks such as Waterfall, Agile or Prince2 is highly desired;
  • Knowledge of test automation and/or SQL is desirable;
  • Experience in writing high quality test cases, performing end user testing, documenting and communicating test results is highly desired;

Language requirements:

  • Full working knowledge of English is essential.
  • Knowledge of another official UNOPS language is an asset
