This is a UNV International Specialist contract. This kind of contract is known as International UN Volunteer. It is normally internationally recruited only. More about UNV International Specialist contracts.

  • References to Kosovo shall be understood to be in the context of the Security Council Resolution 1244 (1999).

Under the direct supervision of the Head of UNMIK Office of Strategic Communications and Public Affairs (OSCPA), the UN Volunteer undertakes some of the following tasks, in accordance with their skills and experience:

Producing content: Drafts social media posts, engaging human interest stories, features, statements, press releases and multimedia scripts and proofreads and copyedits drafts prepared by other officers; OR takes photos, produces videos (researching, scripting, filming, editing, subtitling and post-production), and designs basic graphics for social media;

Assists the section chief in planning, coordinating and overseeing the production of a range of multi-media content (ex. photo stories and videos) in promoting issues in support of the mission’s mandate and its communications strategy;

Assists the section chief in designing and implementing public information campaigns, outreach events and programmatic activities in support of the mission mandate;

Assists the section chief in designing and implementing programmatic activities (ex. drafting project proposals; liaising with implementing partners);

Represents the head of the office in meetings and events if and when required.

Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Multimedia Production or related fields.

Excellent storytelling skills and practical knowledge of news writing conventions, including but not limited to ability to draft human-interest stories and edit/proofread and summarise English documents, OR excellent photography, filming and video production skills and practical knowledge of building narratives to effectively communicate human-interest stories in multimedia format;

Social media management skills, including ability to tailor language and content for social media platforms;

Knowledge of media relations, international relations and public information and public interest communications in the context of international organisations.

Kosovo is located in the Balkans mountain range of south-eastern Europe. The climate is continental, with warm summers and cold, snowy winters. Houses/Apartments are easily available and generally have electricity and running water. Costs are reasonable but vary according to location - i.e. city centre vs. outlying villages. Upon arrival, you will reside in a hotel until you get permanent housing. The UNV Field Unit can assist in identify suitable housing. There are no specific health problems associated with Kosovo, and no vaccines are required prior to arrival. Air pollution indexes are high during the winter period and may pose a threat to particularly sensitive groups. UNMIK offices are equipped with air filters. UNMIK provides contracted medical service to its staff should anyone fall ill. Foods and dietary needs of all kinds are available in the many supermarkets. There are marketplaces that cater fruits and vegetables, and bakeries offer some exquisite pastries and breads. Fresh fish and meat are also available. Several English-speaking schools are available in Kosovo.
